Arson attack on house leaves man injured after neighbours heard 'loud bang'

A man has suffered burns following an arson attack on a house in Middleton.

Firefighters were called to reports of a blaze at a terraced house on Fairfield Road just after 9pm on Wednesday, June 10.

The fire was located in the living room on the ground floor.

Fire crews used a hose to extinguish the flames.

A man, aged in his 20s, suffered minor burns to his hands.

Images taken from the scene show the living room window smashed, with burn marks around the frame.

Neighbours in the area have said they believe a petrol bomb was used to start the fire.

One resident reported hearing a "loud bang" and then saw emergency services on the street.

Another eyewitness said they saw a car pull up outside the house moments before the fire service arrived.

The cause of the fire has not yet been revealed by the fire service or police.

A police cordon remains in place outside the building this morning.

Police cars are also parked within the cordon.

Greater Manchester Police said the incident is being treated as arson.

No arrests have been made.

A spokeswoman said: "Shortly after 9.05pm last night, police were called to reports of a fire at a property on Fairfield Road in Middleton.

"A man in his 20s suffered minor burn injuries to his hand.

"The incident is being treated as arson and an investigation is underway.

"No arrests have currently been made and enquiries are ongoing."

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just after 9pm on Wednesday, June 10, crews from Blackley, Chadderton and Heywood fire stations were called to reports of a fire in a terraced house on Fairfield Road, Middleton.

"Upon arrival firefighters established that the blaze was in the ground floor living room and quickly extinguished the flames using a hose.

"One casualty, a man in his early 20s, was treated at the scene for minor burns to his hands. GMFRS was in attendance for a little over an hour.”
