Arsene Wenger would be a 'great' fit as Chelsea manager, says former Arsenal captain David Seaman

Arsene Wenger would be a “great” fit at Chelsea, says former Gunners keeper and captain David Seaman

Maurizio Sarri’s fraught tenure at Stamford Bridge is hanging by a thread after the Blues lost five of their last ten games, including a 4-0 defeat to Bournemouth.

Chelsea play Malmo in the second-leg of their Europa League round of 32 tie, where defeat would leave the manager’s dismissal inevitable and imminent.

As speculation surrounds Chelsea lining-up potential replacements, Seaman claimed Wenger would be a perfect replacement if he was willing to manage at another English club.

“He’d be great there,” Seaman told TalkSport. “He’d be great anywhere because he’s a fantastic manager.

“He always said that he wouldn’t come back to the Premier League because of his love for Arsenal.

“He said it wouldn’t feel right competing against Arsenal, but time is a healer and he probably now thinks ‘I want to go back there to prove a few people wrong’.

“For me he got the rough end of the stick in his last few years at Arsenal and he got a lot of criticism which wasn’t deserved.

“I would love to see him back but I don’t think it’d happen.”

Wenger initially claimed he would return to management in January.
