Arsene Wenger sums up difference between Liverpool and Man City in Premier League race

Arsene Wenger thinks Liverpool are no longer in this season's Premier League title race and he has summed up why by discussing the Reds and Manchester City's current situation.

Liverpool have suffered a huge amount of injury problems this season, with some of their key players missing throughout the campaign, leaving them with serious issues at the back.

This, along with several other factors, have seen Jurgen Klopp's side struggle in recent weeks and they have now lost their last three league matches.

City 's relentless recent form has seen last season's runners-up become huge favourites to win the Premier League title this time around.

Wenger, who guided Arsenal to three top-flight titles in his 22-year spell in north London, has now ruled Liverpool out of this season's Premier League title race following their 3-1 defeat to Leicester City on Saturday.

Speaking to beIN SPORTS, the Frenchman said: "No, I don't think so (Liverpool are still in the title race).

"Man City is ahead, has one game in-hand, they look to be on a run and I don't think with 14 games to go, you can catch 13 points against a top team. I never seen it, 13 points. If it was eight to nine, yes, but if Man City win their game in-hand, 13 points - it's impossible."

Wenger went on to explain what Liverpool have lost since the blows to Van Dijk and co.

He said: "One of the main reasons (Liverpool are struggling) is they lost (Virgil) Van Dijk. One of their main strengths was winning the ball up high with (Jordan) Henderson in midfield. By putting Henderson at the back they lost that.

"They had success because they won the ball up high and fed their forwards. They have lost a bit of that with the injuries and the changes to the system."

On City, Wenger added that the Manchester club have enjoyed some luck with injuries this season.

"This team is extremely fit and has a great solidarity at the moment," Wenger added. "Maybe they are lucky at the minute that (Kevin) De Bruyne comes back just as (Ilkay) Gundogan gets injured. Sometimes you have seasons where the injuries go well for you and don't give you a headache."
