Arsene Wenger 'set to make return to football’ a year after leaving Arsenal

Legendary former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is closing in on a sensational return to football.

The Frenchman won three Premier League titles — including in 2003-04 when his ‘Invincibles’ went unbeaten for an entire season — and seven FA Cups during his time as Gunners’ boss.

He also took the club into the Champions League for 20 years in a row, but struggled during his latter years at the Emirates helm and left the club at the end of last season.

The 69-year-old has made no secret of his desire to return to football, and reportedly turned down an ambitious approach by Fulham to take charge of the Cottagers this season before Claudio Ranieri was appointed.

The Mail on Sunday has now claimed that Wenger is set to return to football in France, with Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain both considering the experienced boss.

It is claimed Lyon want him to come in as a general manager, with current coach Bruno Genesio set to leave at the end of the season.

The role would see Wenger oversee the club's recruitment operation and also have a leading role in the appointment of a new first-team coach.

Lyon already boast former Liverpool manager Gerard Houllier in their set-up, though he is only in a part-time advisory role.

It isn’t guaranteed that Wenger will join Lyon, with French champions PSG also understood to be considering offering Wenger a similar role.

Manager Thomas Tuchel, despite leading them to another title, is under pressure in Paris after another woeful Champions League campaign.

Wenger, is it claimed, has a good understanding with PSG’s Qatari owners and could be offered a role of general manager if Tuchel departs this summer.
