Arsene Wenger sent warning by former Chelsea captain about taking the Bayern Munich job

Former Chelsea and France defender Marcel Desailly believes Arsene Wenger is no long suited to life in the dugout amid speculation the former Arsenal manager could take over at Bayern Munich.

Wenger is now the outright favourite to take charge of Bayern until the end of the season, following the departure of Niko Kovac.

The Bundesliga champions confirmed Kovac's departure after a surprise 5-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt at the weekend, following a mutual agreement from both parties.

And according to German outlet  Bild , Wenger is 'open' to taking over in Munich on a short term basis, and has contacted the club to tell them to 'stand by'.

The report claims the incentive of finishing his managerial career by winning a final league title greatly appeals to the former Arsenal head coach.

But Desailly believes Wenger's age means he would not be suited to the Bayern job.

“No, he should not be in the dugout. It’s not for him any more,” he said on beIN Sport.

He added: “He has great possibilities to restructure, to build up the philosophy of the club, towards the first team and the academy.

“But as a frontline, we don’t see him anymore. He’s 70 years old.”

Ahead of the Champions League action this week, Wenger was directly asked about the Bayern speculation and, although he did not give a definitive answer, he explained his current thoughts on his position away from management.

"I came here to speak about the games and you start very strongly there, putting me straight under pressure!" He told beIN Sports.

"Of course, coaching was my whole life and everybody who was a coach will tell you the same, that they miss the intensity. There are things you miss a lot and some things you don't miss.

"So I enjoy the things I don't miss too much but, on the other hand, winning a football game, preparing a team for a game and getting satisfaction, sharing emotions, is something that you miss.

"I coached from 33 years of age and I coached until 69 without interruption at a top level, 36 years without stopping, so even if I miss it, to get away from that pressure for a year was good for me.

"People who know me well say I'm more relaxed and it's true."
