Arsene Wenger says Arsenal links led him to rejecting Premier League return

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that his emotional links to Arsenal have prevented him from returning to work in the Premier League.

A partnership lasting 22 years that yielded 17 trophies finally ended in May 2018 and the Frenchman has yet to return to a full-time role in football, instead taking up punditry roles as he continues to mull over his next move.

Speaking at Monday night's 2019 Legends of Football Dinner - an annual charity event in aid of music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins that this year celebrated Wenger's career achievements - the 69-year-old revealed that he had received offers to manage again in the English top-flight, but spurned them due to his connection with Arsenal.

"No, I'm an Arsenal man. After that I'm as well a professional you know, I cannot stop to work because of that," he told Sky Sports.

"I decided to move out of the Premier League because I'm too linked with Arsenal and emotionally too much linked with Arsenal.

"I had opportunities to work in England that I turned down until now because I didn't want to do it."

Asked which clubs had offered those opportunities, Wenger remained tight-lipped.

"I don't want to tell you that tonight because they have people in charge and it would be unfair to them," he added.
