Arsene Wenger's Leeds United claim that alerts Arsenal, Man United and every Premier League club

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is well aware of Leeds United's reputation.

That's according to Paul Heckingbottom who had a four-month spell in charge of the Whites in the 2017-2018 season.

In that campaign, United finished 13th in the Championship table as their wait for a return to the Premier League was extended by another year.

Although, Heckingbottom's replacement - Marcelo Bielsa - did take the club to the play-offs last season where they were beaten over two legs by eventual finalists Derby County.

However, United are in a good position to seal automatic promotion this year and that's despite falling to a 2-0 defeat away at Cardiff City last weekend as the Championship season resumed after a three-month break.

Heckingbottom still believes his former club will be a Premier League side in 2020/21 and has revealed what Wenger said to him about Leeds United a couple of years ago.

"They are stronger mentally for the benefits of last season, in a fantastic position," Heckingbottom told the Guardian.

"I believe this break has does them good and allowed them to recuperate and it will play into their hands and they’ll go on and win promotion.

"I always remember at Arsenal, watching a Europa League game against Milan and chatting to Arsene Wenger afterwards.

"The first thing he said was: ‘Leeds, what a club, big club,’ and that’s the reputation it’s got all over."

Wenger's claim about the size of Leeds United should alert the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and the rest of the Premier League.
