Arsene Wenger reveals why he will NOT be at Arsenal's Europa League final vs Chelsea

Arsene Wenger will not be in the stands to watch his beloved Arsenal take on Chelsea in the Europa League final next week.

But the legendary Gunners boss will attend the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium to watch Liverpool play Arsenal's north London rivals Tottenham in the Champions League final on June 1.

The reason for Wenger's absence in Baku is because he has prior commitments that he must respect.

Wenger told talkSPORT: "How will I watch it [the Europa League final]? On television. I will not be in Baku because I have commitments that I accepted and I will have to respect that.

"So I will watch it on television and I will be in Madrid for the big final."

Wenger won't be the only Arsenal fan missing the final in Baku due to the difficulties facing supporters travelling to Azerbaijan.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea are set to return 3,000 tickets for the final to UEFA as fans cannot afford the outrageous travelling costs of the 5,000 mile round trip to attend the fixture, while obtaining visas is also a problem.

Arsenal also announced this week that midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan will not be travelling to Baku for the final due to safety concerns.

"We are very disappointed to announce that Henrikh Mkhitaryan will not be travelling with the squad for our UEFA Europa League final against Chelsea," said Arsenal in a statement.

"We have thoroughly explored all the options for Micki to be part of the squad but after discussing this with Micki and his family we have collectively agreed he will not be in our travelling party.

"We have written to UEFA expressing our deep concerns about this situation. Micki has been a key player in our run to the final so this is a big loss for us from a team perspective.

"We're also very sad that a player will miss out on a major European final in circumstances such as this, as it is something that comes along very rarely in a footballer's career.

"Micki will continue to be part of our preparations until we depart for Baku at the weekend."
