Arsene Wenger reveals talks over return to Arsenal after a year away from club

Arsene Wenger admits he has spoken to key figures at Arsenal - but is reluctant to return to the club.

Wenger, 69, left the Emirates at the end of the 2017/18 season and is yet to return to management.

The Frenchman has not been back at his former home to watch a game and insists he wants 'complete distance' from the reign of successor Unai Emery.

Speaking to beIN Sports, Wenger revealed he has been in contact with his former club but is not planning on heading back to north London.

"I have been in touch with some people at the club but I felt when you go like that you cannot be half in, half out," Wenger said.

"You let people who come in work their way. And I wanted to take a complete distance.

"It’s still a bit early, maybe, to go back. I haven’t been back at the club."

Wenger has been linked with a number of jobs since leaving Arsenal and admits he has rejected offers as he weighs up his next move.

"I was tempted and as well a little bit afraid to dive back into it straight away," he added.

"I was realising that I lived like somebody in a coma for 35 years who woke up and saw something different in life than just my club, my game and my work.

"So I thought maybe I have to analyse that and take a little bit longer distance."
