Arsene Wenger reveals stance on proposed Champions League changes for Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hit out at proposals to reformat the Champions League, criticising the approach being touted.

Persistent rumours about a restructure to Europe's elite competition continue to be present, with a move towards a 'Super League' appearing closer and closer on a yearly basis.

Such a move would see Europe's 'top' clubs guaranteed of their involvement regardless of their performances domestically and on the continent, which has attracted vast criticism.

While that could benefit Arsenal, who have been absent from Europe's elite competition for the past three-years, Wenger has hit out at the plans.

Cedric happy to fill in where needed for Arsenal

"To make it simple and honest, I would say the clubs always want more money. To get more money, they want more guaranteed games," he told BeIN Sports.

"The fans want more games of significance, that means they want games with meaning. Modern football has to find a compromise between what the clubs want, more money, and what the fans want - simplicity, clarity, and competition of meaning.

"In between, you now have the media who start to dictate what should happen. That will be a huge battle in the future.

"Personally, the model that is proposed for the modern Champions League, I don't like it at all. As long as we in the game don't respect the sporting merit in a logical way, we are not right.

"I think all people that played top-level competition would say you have to keep the merit of the quality of your performance."
