Arsene Wenger reveals reasons behind Alexis Sanchez struggles at Manchester United

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says Alexis Sanchez's Manchester United struggles are down to a loss of confidence.

Sanchez was signed by Wenger at Arsenal in the summer of 2014, and went on to win two FA Cups and score 80 goals in three and a half season under the Frenchman.

He joined Manchester United in January this year, in a swap deal for Armenian midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but has struggled to recapture the form that made him the Gunners’ talisman.

And Wenger, who followed Sanchez in leaving the North London club in the summer, says the forward is suffering both mentally and physically.

Sanchez helped United to a comeback 2-1 win over Juventus in Turin on Wednesday night

"I believe he has lost confidence," Wenger told BeIN Sports. "The strength of Alexis Sanchez is to take the initiative, to dribble.

"Those are the players who are most vulnerable when they lose confidence their game is based on that and having that feeling to take initiative, he has lost that slowly.

"Since the start of the season he had a high level of physical energy but he has lost that as well."
