Arsene Wenger makes Harry Kane claim as he questions Jose Mourinho decision for Man City clash

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has raised concerns about Harry Kane's fitness after his recent injury problems.

Kane missed two Spurs matches following an ankle injury sustained during the 3-1 defeat to Liverpool on January 28, with Tottenham unable to score in either of the matches their star striker missed.

The England captain has a history of ankle injuries so Spurs were relieved to have their no.10 back just ten days after the 27-year-old hobbled from the field.

Wenger however feels that Kane may have been rushed back and is not fully fit. The Frenchman claimed that Kane is not fit enough to play at the high-intensity Jose Mourinho requires of his striker.

“What we have learned from Tottenham like I said before the game, [Hugo] Lloris doesn’t look to be at his best,” Wenger told beIN SPORTS.

"Nor is Harry Kane. He looks physically, fitness-wise, not completely ready to play at that intensity. To me he looks still a bit injured on his ankle when he got hurt one time, he went down quickly and it was not a big hit.

"So with that handicap, Tottenham will have a difficult game.”

Kane came close to opening the scoring smashing a free-kick against the crossbar in the first half but otherwise failed to stretch Ederson the Manchester City goal and cast a downbeat figure walking off the pitch at the final whistle.

Before the game, Tottenham manager Mourinho insisted Kane was fully fit and ready for the challenge of facing the league leaders.

Mourinho said: “Of course he played 60 minutes or so [mid-week against Everton], which he didn't want and I didn't want as it was a game that pushed us in that direction, but no negative feelings after the game. Just the normal stiffness, but I believe so. I believe he can start.”

Kane lasted the 90 minutes against Manchester City but was unable to stop his team from falling to their fifth defeat in six matches as City ran out 3-0 winners thanks to a controversial Rodri penalty and two Ilkay Gundogan strikes.

The loss sees Spurs remain in ninth place four points off Liverpool in the final Champions League spot.
