Arsene Wenger joins football lawmakers in Belfast to discuss tweaks to VAR

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was in Belfast today as he attended the annual meeting of the International Football Association Board.

The three-time Premier League winning manager was appointed FIFA's new chief of global football development last month.

Wenger is also a member of IFAB's football and technical advisory panels.

The meeting, which was held in the Grand Central Hotel, was chaired by Irish FA chief executive Patrick Nelson.

On the agenda was the potential tweaks to Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology.

The talks on VAR included how to improve communication to fans over the use of Video Assistant Referee technology in the game.

One of the possibilities was the potential to let supporters hear a final decision, and brief explanation, from a referee on any VAR decision.

However, fans would still be unable to listen to match officials during the decision-making process.

Meanwhile, detailed discussions were also held on concussions and improving player behaviour.

The next 2020 AGM, which will take place in Belfast on February 29, will decide which of Tuesday's proposals and recommendations will become part of the laws of the game as from June 1, 2020.
