Arsene Wenger issues Premier League title verdict after Man City's defeat to Liverpool

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has shared his verdict on the Premier League title race following Manchester City's 3-1 defeat against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Reds swept City aside on Merseyside to extend their advantage over the defending champions to nine points after just 12 matches, with Jurgen Klopp's side still undefeated this season.

That has put Liverpool in pole position to end a 30-year wait for another league title but there is still plenty of football left to be played, which could give City encouragement.

However, Arsenal legend Wenger believes that the writing is on the wall as he cannot see Liverpool conceding their significant advantage, stating the deficit is too large for City to make up.

“First of all, to lose a big game, it is terrible and you can see the reactions from both managers tonight, how much pressure they are under and how much a game like that means,” he told beIN Sports.

“Guardiola will go home and be absolutely devastated, more than you think. If you think of a quantity, add 100 per cent to that. Overall, nine points is too big a difference for Man City after 12 games.”

City face another stern test after the international break against a high-flying Chelsea side, while Liverpool travel to face Crystal Palace.
