Arsene Wenger gives Tottenham star Harry Kane surprising transfer advice

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes Harry Kane could achieve his ambitions of winning trophies without leaving Tottenham.

The Spurs talisman has been linked with a potential exit, despite having three years remaining on his contract with the club.

The likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Man City have been linked with the England captain, who has 215 goals for Spurs and is second in the all-time scoring list behind Jimmy Greaves.

There have recently been suggestions that Kane could look to leave North London in order to challenge for major trophies, with the player himself revealing he would hold talks about his future after this summers’ delayed Euro 2020.

Kane’s future has come under further scrutiny since Spurs’ shocking Europa League exit to Dinamo Zagreb, but Wenger believes it is unfair to judge the club at the current position.

“Tottenham are in a position where they can be ambitious and we should not maybe judge only today’s situation,” he told beIN Sports.

“Tottenham was top of the league in December. There were a few times when they were top of the league when I was still at Arsenal.

“He is the only one who can assess the situation.

“A player like that is always solicited by other clubs and always has to assess his situation.

“He was until now a real top leader at Tottenham. He’s a top leader in the English national team. I respect highly his commitment and his quality and what I like today is he could play basically as a Number 10 because the quality of his assists and the speed of his vision and the execution of his speed on long balls is exceptional.”

Wenger recently opened up on the turn of events that saw Kane switch the red of Arsenal for the lilywhite of Tottenham, after he was released from the Gunners’ academy set up as a youngster.

Asked about his decision to join Arsenal’s arch-rivals Wenger jokingly claimed that he was his big mistake.

“That’s where he made the wrong decision! I know about his story, but he was very young, just nine years old and his father moved,” he said last month.

“I don’t know exactly what happened, but it was at a very young age.

“The history of every club is full of players you’ve missed that became top stars. Unfortunately...I would like them all to be in the red and white.”
