Arsene Wenger has hailed Mohamed Elneny as 'a modern day midfielder'.
The Egyptian international left Arsenal on a season-long loan move to Turkish side Besiktas following three years in North London.
Elneny had fallen out of favour at the Emirates Stadium and took the initiative to move away from the Gunners in a bid to reignite his career.
Of course the man who brought the midfielder to Arsenal in the first place was Arsene Wenger.
The 27-year-old cost in the region of £12.5million when he arrived from Swiss side Basel, and speaking to beIN Sports , Wenger says that Elneny is a real asset to any team who has him.
Wenger said: “First and foremost, Elneny is a modern day midfielder.
“He will work hard for the team. He has a great technique. His physical attributes are also very important.
“His passes are also very direct and will help the team in attacking areas.”
Mohamed Elneny no doubt still holds Arsenal in high regard after posting an emotion note after joining Besiktas this summer.
Speaking on his official Twitter account, Elneny said: "I am very excited to be joining Turkish giants Besiktas and I look forward to achieving our targets in the Super Lig and Europe.
"To my dear Arsenal fans and team mates, I wish all the success for the season and be sure that I will be following the team's progress from Istanbul."
