Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger previously discussed his attempts to bring Jadon Sancho to north London during his time in charge.
The 19-year-old is one of the hottest prospects in world football after leaving Manchester City for a new challenge with Borussia Dortmund in 2017.
Sancho hasn't looked back as he established himself as a key player with the German side, before also making the step up to the senior England national team.
The winger starred with two goals for Gareth Southgate's side on Tuesday as England beat Kosovo 5-3 at St Mary's.
And speaking to beIN Sports, Wenger talked about how he tried to convince the starlet to move to the Emirates Stadium before he made the switch to the Bundesliga.
He said: "I wanted to take him from Man City when he didn't get the games.
"I tried to lure him because he's from London. I tried to get him to Arsenal. He's one of the best players of his generation. He can dribble, he has the arrogance.
"There's something in there that is part of the big players. You can call it arrogance, confidence, belief; but it has to be there."
The Borussia Dortmund winger has been in sensational form in the Bundesliga so far this campaign, scoring two goals and laying on three assists in three games.
