Arsene Wenger advises Marcelo Bielsa on what needs to change at Leeds United

Arsene Wenger says Marcelo Bielsa needs to find balance at Leeds United.

The Whites suffered a 1-0 defeat to Wolves on Friday evening for their fourth loss in seven games, with three victories from that period, and plenty of attention has been centred on their defensive record this season.

Wenger is a fan of Bielsa's style and attack-minded approach but says a balance needs to be struck between staying consistent with a message and adapting to suit opponents.

He told beIN Sports: "You speak about the job of a modern manager and I think the modern manager needs the expertise to know what it is to be at the top level.

Does Bielsa think Shackleton played well in midfield?

"He needs to be a strategist and be capable of adjusting to the way an opponent plays, to prepare your team and change your mind a little bit about how you should play whilst keeping your basic message.

"When you want to go for an audacious way to play football, as soon as you lose, people say you are a dreamer.

"It happened to Pep Guardiola at Man City when he didn't win the title last year but that's why, at some stage, you have to be both consistent with your message as well as finding a better balance to your team.

"Sometimes I feel the strategy is to get the better balance inside your own camp and have a consistent message to your team over the way you want to play football.

"You need to adapt to the opponent without destroying your game."

Wenger says he recognises some of his own ways of playing football when he watches the Whites, being impressed at how relentless they are in attack.

Yet he warned that, after their promotion from the Championship last season, they may not have the individual quality required in the squad to spark a revival in matches where they are not playing well.

He said: "They have a kind of play that is very attractive and I like to watch them play because they're always relentless going forward.

"It's a very demanding, physical style and in the Premier League, it's very difficult to last like that from the first to the last day of the league.

"When they have not had that little spark in the final third, they've looked vulnerable defensively.

"You fear always for them that they could lose games because they're very open.

"I know that kind of football very well because I've taken that gamble as well, but I respect what they do and I like to watch them.

"They must still be careful as they've started on a bad run and, once the confidence has gone from this kind of teams, they've not got enough individual quality to back it up with somebody who does something special."
