Arsenal youngster Emile Smith Rowe is in advanced talks to join Red Bull Leipzig until the end of the season.
The 18-year-old was in Germany to undergo a medical ahead of joining the Bundesliga club but one sticking point remained as Leipzig want to insert an option to buy the midfielder in the summer.
Emery is a fan of Smith Rowe having given him his senior debut in September and a total of six first-team appearances this season. He is highly-rated at London Colney and the hope is he emulates Reiss Nelson’s progress during his season-long loan at Hoffenheim before resuming his career at Emirates Stadium.
However, Leipzig are wary of a repeat of last season’s loan move for Ademola Lookman, who impressed during his time at the club but returned to Everton because no permanent transfer had been agreed. Eddie Nketiah has been linked with a move to Augsburg but nothing was imminent this morning.
