Arsenal teenager Karl Hein suffered a major gaffe for Estonia to give opponents North Macedonia the lead with an own goal two minutes into the game.
The goalkeeper, who has been with the Gunners academy since 2018, was making his second appearance for his country.
Having played the ball out, defender Marten Kuusk had it in possession and assessed the options in front.
But the 24-year-old decided it was best to play back to his goalkeeper – who was not expecting it back so quickly.
The centre-back’s pass was aimed at the bottom-left corner of his own goal, with the Gunners shot-stopper position himself fat right.
It saw Hein sprint towards the open goal, desperately lunging in an effort to stop the stray ball crossing the line.
But the Arsenal man’s attempted kick only put it into the side netting, giving North Macedonia the lead with three minutes on the clock.
The eastern European side were given a scare, though, as Rauno Sappinen grabbed a black before Frank Liivak made it 3-1 from the penalty spot with 14 minutes to go.
But strikes from Goran Pandev and Gjoko Zajkov saw the League C Group 2 side remain top their table with an unbeaten run of two draws and one win.
Hein made five senior appearances for Esontian side Nomme United in 2018 before making the move to north London, where he is working his way up the ranks.
The 18-year-old’s path got another obstacle over the summer as Mikel Arteta signed Icelandic shot-stopper Alex Runarsson.
It came after Emiliano Martinez, who made 23 appearances in the absence of Bernd Leno last season, left for Aston Villa.
But it was an emotional exit for the 28-year-old, who only conceded 24 goals for the Gunners during his time between the posts last season.
