Arsenal youngster Eddie Nketiah backed to shine at Leeds United following Brentford winner

Arsenal's young striker Eddie Nketiah has been backed to be a success in his loan spell at Leeds United.

The 20-year-old had the chance to join Bristol City on a short-term deal, but made the move to Elland Road after talks with the Championship club.

Nketiah scored in the league cup win over Salford City, and came off the substitutes bench to score the only goal of the game in the Championship win over Brentford on Wednesday.

However, he faces strong competition from Patrick Bamford for the starting role in Marcelo Bielsa's team, and Danny Higginbotham says that while he believes the young striker will be a success, he may have to bide his time.

"[Nketiah] has got a chance, but I think you've got to look at Bamford," he told Football League World.

"[Bamford] seems to have thrived off competition; he got two goals at Wigan at the weekend and scored against Bristol City as well. [The competition for places] is taking him to another level.

"In terms of Nketiah, he looked like he was on his way to Bristol City and then Leeds went down with a power point presentation, saying 'it might be beneficial for him to come to Leeds'.

"I think the one thing he gives you is great pace; he's got good movement, he's in the right place at the right time, scoring against Salford in the league cup.

"He's a great addition for a team that's got a relatively small squad.

"Bielsa doesn't change his team too much, but what he does try and get from his players is flexibility and potential to play in different positions.

"Time will tell, but I think [Nketiah] will prove to be a good signing. Whether he breaks into the team in the near future, I don't know.

"If Bamford keeps going the way that he is doing, it's going to be difficult, but in the mean time, he'll be hoping he can have an impact from the bench."
