The Sky Blues have also confirmed that they have the option to sign Sheaf on a permanent deal at the end of his loan stint should he impress whilst on the books of Mark Robins' side.

Last season, the defensive midfielder had a successful season-long loan stint at Doncaster Rovers, racking up 38 appearances in all competitions for the League One outfit.

The midfielder will now get the opportunity to test himself at Championship level for the first time, following Coventry's promotion from League One last season.

On landing Sheaf on loan for the campaign, Coventry manager Robins told the club's official website: "We’re very pleased to announce Ben’s arrival at the club.

“He’s a player with great pedigree and ability, who will really add to our squad for the Championship season ahead.

“He’s got a good physical presence and a footballing brain as well, and will be a real asset for us during the campaign.

“We thank Arsenal for agreeing to loan Ben to us, and look forward to working with him.”
