Arsenal wonderkid set for summer exit after failing to agree new contract

Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun is set to leave North London this summer after failing to agree a new contract with the Gunners.

The 18-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Emirates Stadium and will be sold this summer rather than being lost for nothing next year, The Athletic's David Ornstein states.

Balogun has been prolific at youth levels for Arsenal, including averaging a goal every 62 minutes in the club's U18 title-winning season last year.

That returned has continued for the club's U23 ranks this term, where he has netted 10 goals and contributed four assists in 15 appearances in Premier League 2.

However, first-team opportunities have not been forthcoming at Arsenal with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli above him in the pecking order.

As a result, the New York-born forward is now set to leave over the course of the coming weeks as Arsenal look to secure a fee for his departure.

Fans will be concerned that he could become 'one that got away' for the Gunners, having seen the likes of Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Donyell Malen excel elsewhere since leaving the club.
