'Arsenal will regret this' - Xavier Amaechi to Hamburg brings back memories of Serge Gnabry

Arsenal fans have been reacting with mixed feelings after Xavier Amaechi left the club to join Hamburg.

The 18-year-old has joined the German giants after rejecting a new contract at the Emirates. The Bundesliga side will pay around €2.5million for the winger, with the Gunners also installing a sell-on clause in the deal, according to reports.

Amaechi, who is expected to be a first-team regular for his new side, failed to register a single first-team appearance in his time with the north London club, although he was a regular for the club's Under-23 side.

Football.london reported earlier in the summer that the were facing up to the increasingly likely prospect that he will not sign a new contract after Emery snubbed the winger from his Europa League final bench.

The youngster was not picked for the club's tour of the USA despite other youngsters making the trip including Bukayo Saka, Eddie Nketiah and Joe Willock.

But when reacting to news on Twitter on Saturday evening, Arsenal fans seemed split on whether it was a good or bad move for the club, while one fan felt the time was right for the Bath-born man to depart. However, after the departure of Serge Gnabry all of those years ago, supporters do appear hesitant over the transfer.
