Arsenal welcome Bukayo Saka home with a wall filled with thousands of messages of ‘love and support’

Arsenal surprised Bukayo Saka on his first day back for pre-season by showing him the thousands of letters they received sending him love and support after he suffered heartbreak at Euro 2020.

Saka shone during the tournament this summer, but he had a painful final as England lost to Italy on penalties.

The teenager missed his penalty and he, along with Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford, subsequently received racist abuse online.

Saka received support from Arsenal, with chief executive Vinai Venkatesham, director Josh Kroenke and manager Mikel Arteta - along with other club staff - all contacting him.

Arsenal also received thousands of messages from fans wishing Saka well and they surprised the forward by showing them to him as he returned for pre-season.

The club filled a wall of their indoor training pitch at London Colney with the messages and Saka was overwhelmed by the messages.

Saka said: “How do I even say thank you for all this? Can I just pick it all up and take it home?”
