Arsenal weighing up Donyell Malen transfer as PSV set price tag

Arsenal are weighing up whether to re-sign PSV Eindhoven striker Donyell Malen for £48million, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang being linked with a move away from the Emirates.

Malen was part of Arsenal ’s academy from 2015 to 2017 and featured for the first team in several pre-season games.

However, he was sold to PSV for just £500,000 and the 21-year-old has since looked to prove his former side wrong in letting him go.

The Dutchman has bagged 17 goals and provided nine assists in all competitions for the Eredivisie outfit this term.

His impressive form has sparked interest from the Gunners in securing his return to north London, according to French outlet Le 10 Sport.

Barcelona and Inter Milan are rumoured to be interested in signing Aubameyang this summer.

The Gabon forward is the club’s leading scorer with 20 goals during the campaign.

He shared the Premier League’s Golden Boot last year along with Liverpool pair Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, and he’s on track to repeat the feat again.

With 17 goals already, he’s joint top scorer in the league with Jamie Vardy.

However, his contract is due to expire in the summer of 2021 and now could be the last chance to get a big fee for the 30-year-old.

Malen explained his reasoning for leaving Arsenal.

In an interview with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf last year, he said: “That I was sent away from Arsenal is certainly not true.

“I still had a contract for a year and Arsenal even wanted to extend that.

“I don't play football for the money. I never did that. Otherwise I would not have left England.

“There are stories that I was not fit when I came to Arsenal. But I have never been too fat, that really is a nonsense story.

“It may sound silly, but I may have learned the most from the young boys such as Reiss Nelson.

“They were used to a completely different kind of football, really that English style.”
