Arsenal wait on Community Shield verdict before finalising pre-season plans as Germany trip shelved

Arsenal are looking to finalise their pre-season plans over the next week once the result of Saturday’s FA Cup final is known.

The result of the game at Wembley between Manchester City and Manchester United will determine whether Arsenal are playing in the Community Shield on August 10.

If Manchester United win, they will face City in the Community Shield - but, if they lose, Arsenal will lock horns with Pep Guardiola’s side after finishing runners-up in the Premier League.

Whether the Gunners are in the Community Shield or not will impact their plans for that final week of pre-season.

Arsenal have traditionally played the Emirates Cup the last weekend before the season starts but, if they are playing in the Community Shield, they could be forced to do so in the middle of the week before the Community Shield - as was the case last summer.

Mikel Arteta’s side will kick off pre-season by meeting at their training ground in London Colney before flying to the United States on July 21 for a tour.

In previous years, the Gunners have headed to Germany for a camp at Adidas’ HQ in Germany before going on tour - but that is not the plan this year due to the timing of Euro 2024.

Arsenal will instead work at their usual training base in north London before heading to the USA, where they have games locked in against Manchester United and Liverpool.

The Gunners are due to face United in Los Angeles on July 27 at SoFi Stadium and Liverpool four days later in Philadelphia at Lincoln Financial Field.

It is understood Arsenal are looking at the possibility of playing a third game in Los Angeles in the days before they face Manchester United, with Bournemouth the likely opponent.
