Arsenal vs Wolves LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and reaction after late goals seal win

Arsenal vs Wolves LIVE

Arsenal moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League table after beating a struggling Wolves side on Saturday night. A fortuitous Sam Johnstone own goal broke the deadlock in the 70th minute before Tolu Arokodare looked to have stolen a point for the Premier League’s bottom side in the 90th minute.

However, in injury time a second Wolves own goal - this time Yerson Mosquera heading into his own net under pressure from Gabriel Jesus - gave Arsenal all three points in a dramatic finale in north London as the Gunners, for long periods, struggled to break down a well-drilled Wolves team that came so very close to earning a surprise point and blowing the title race firmly open for a second straight week.

The visitors, meanwhile, are remarkably still without a league win this season and have now lost nine games in a row, scoring just twice during this difficult period. Follow Arsenal vs Wolves LIVE below with Standard Sport's dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis from Simon Collings at the Emirates Stadium!

I mean, that is a goal befitting of this game.

GOAL! Arsenal 1-0 Wolves | Own goal ‘70

21:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

21:17 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

That is the Brazilian’s last action as he is replaced by Trossard.

Odegaard and Merino also on for Eze and Zubimendi.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

KICK-OFF!

21:04 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Back underway in north London.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

21:02 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Against Aston Villa last weekend, Mikel Arteta did not hang around with his substitutions as he sent on Viktor Gyokeres and Leandro Trossard at the start of the second half.

Those changes resulted in an immediate impact, so more of the same tonight?

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:55 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal didn’t create all that much in the first-half, but should Gabriel Martinelli do better with this chance?

Half-time

20:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

Goalless at the break as Gunners frustrated by the division’s bottom side.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:47 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

45+2 min: Arsenal, off the pace so far, have a free-kick but Rice’s cross is dealt with by Johnstone before Wolves clear and build an attack where Larsen has a shot blocked by Hincapie.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:44 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

43 min: Eze and Martinelli send in crosses but Wolves deal with both deliveries very comfortably in quick succession.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:41 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

40 min: Arsenal just forcing it a little bit as Zubimendi plays an aimless pass out of play. He was looking for the run of Saka but the ball had to be inch perfect - and it wasn’t.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:38 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

37 min: Every Wolves player back behind the ball as they continue to frustrate Arsenal by closing off the spaces.

Saka does well to flash a ball in across the face off goal but Gyokeres can’t make contact before Martinelli forces a corner from which he pokes another attempt wide.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:34 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

33 min: CHANCE!

Rice booms a corner to the back post where Martinelli is free and he heads wide. The Brazilian should do better and he knows it.

Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium

20:32 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

That is gutting for White, who has had fitness issues over the past. He will be hoping that hamstring injury is not a bad one.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:31 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

30 min: A real shame for White as he is replaced by Lewis-Skelly.

Would imagine that means Arsenal’s back four will shift over one. Saliba now partnering Hincapie in the middle.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

29 min: Gyokeres holds off Mosquera but his cross is far too close to Johnstone. White is down for Arsenal and it looks like a change is imminent with Lewis-Skelly ready for action.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:27 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

27 min: Saka tries to lift the mood inside the Emirates as he skips past Toti with ease but his cross into the box is dealt with by Andre.

On the counter attack, Hwang is clean through and runs away from the Arsenal defenders but sees his shot saved by Raya.

Massive warning for Gunners.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:25 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

24 min: Camera pans to a frustrated Mikel Arteta on the Arsenal bench as a stat shows the hosts have mustered two attempts so far - none of which have been on target.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:24 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

23 min: Few groans from the Arsenal supporters as Martinelli is penalised for a foul on Doherty. The Brazilian’s boot was rather high, though he did not appear to make much contact with the Wolves defender.

Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium

20:21 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

All pretty flat, so far. Wolves are doing a decent job of slowing the game down and stopping Arsenal from finding their rhythm.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:19 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

19 min: Fantastic defending from Toti to get across and cut out White’s cross from inside the box. The offside was up but the Wolves captain wasn’t to know that.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:18 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

17 min: Saka goes on the outside and stands up a decent cross for Rice who can’t generate enough power on his header and Johnstone claims the ball under no pressure.

Chance here for Wolves as Hwang wins a free-kick from Timber.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:15 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

15 min: J Gomes is back on his feet after receiving treatment. He will have to go off for 30 seconds before being allowed to continue.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:14 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

13 min: Arsenal build down the right as Saka feeds Gyokeres but he can’t wriggle away from his marker before Eze is penalised for a high boot on Joao Gomes.

That will be a sore on for the Wolves midfelder as he was caught in the face.

Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium

20:11 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal with just under 70 per cent possession during the opening 10 minutes - the pattern for this game has been set.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:10 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

9 min: Arsenal pressure slowly building as Saka wins another free-kick but Wolves are able to deal with Rice’s delivery towards the front post.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:07 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

7 min: Arsenal work a short free-kick well as Hincapie puts in a cross which causes concern for Wolves and they concede a corner which is also played short, though the hosts can’t make much of it.

That’s until Saka picks out Timber with a floating cross but the Dutchman heads over.

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:05 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

4 min: Bit of possession for Wolves as they recycle the ball from the left to right before the attack breaks down at the final moment. Gabriel Martinelli is down near the touchline, but should be fine to continue.

Another Arsenal free-kick...

Arsenal 0-0 Wolves

20:03 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

2 min: Doherty concedes a foul and Arsenal have their first free-kick of the night. Rice standing over the ball, it’s a really good position but the delivery from the midfielder is low and flat which makes it easy for Wolves to deal with.

Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium

20:01 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Saliba has played as a left centre-back for France, so not too much of a surprise to see him there. Hincapie is at left-back.

KICK-OFF!

Edwards reflects

19:55 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

It is officially a month since Wolves appointed Rob Edwards as their new head coach.

However, Edwards is yet to oversee a victory. In fact, he has lost every single game so far with Wolves on a run of eight successive defeats.

Arsenal will hope to make it nine across the next couple of hours but Edwards is relishing the challenge.

He said: “Results haven't changed, so that's disappointing, because we all want to try and have an impact in terms of results, but I do feel there's a lot of good work that's gone on, and feel like we've got a really good understanding now of the group and the lads, so that's really positive as well.

“Ultimately, and what we're judged on, is the results. So, that's the bit that we're frustrated by, but the reality is that it was difficult before we came in, and I think we can see it's going to be difficult going forward I think for a period of time. But I'm energised by that. I'm looking forward to moving forward and trying to try to improve things.”

Arteta confirms transfer plan

19:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Mikel Arteta says Arsenal have no plans to sell Gabriel Jesus in January.

Jesus returned from injury on Wednesday night, coming off the bench during Arsenal’s 3-0 win at Club Brugge after being out of action since January.

The striker performed well, but the prospect of him leaving next month when the transfer window opens has been mooted.

Jesus will have just 18 months left on his contract then and Arteta also has three other striker options at his disposal in Kai Havertz, Mikel Merino and Viktor Gyokeres.

But, asked about the possibility of selling Jesus in January, Arteta said: “I don’t consider that, especially with the situation we have right now."

Mikel Arteta reveals William Saliba injury setbacks

18:35 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Mikel Arteta has explained why William Saliba has been sidelined with an injury longer than expected, but is hopeful the Arsenal defender is closing in on a comeback.

Saliba has not played since the Gunners' win over Bayern Munich on November 26 after picking up what was described as a "little niggle" in training.

Arteta suggested at the time that the Frenchman would be back "in a matter of days", but Saliba has now missed the last four matches.

He remains a doubt for Arsenal's match at home to Wolves tonight, with a decision set to be made after yesterday's training session.

Mikel Arteta finally finds solution to long-term Arsenal problem

18:30 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

When you are competing with Bukayo Saka for minutes, you have to take your chances, writes Simon Collings.

No player has made more appearances for Arsenal than Saka since Mikel Arteta was appointed six years ago.

Saka has been instrumental to the way Arsenal play, but in this packed schedule, even he needs a rest.

And if Noni Madueke continues to perform like this, then Arteta will be far more comfortable doing exactly that.

Mikel Arteta is ready to unleash a new Arsenal strikeforce

18:25 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Mikel Arteta believes he can solve his selection headache up front by playing Gabriel Jesus and Viktor Gyokeres in the same team.

Arsenal have been hit hard by injuries recently, but that has been in defence and going forward, Arteta is blessed with options.

Gyokeres and Jesus can both play as a central striker, while Mikel Merino is an option there, too, and Kai Havertz will be when back from injury.

Arteta has already spoken about how Gyokeres and Havertz could play in the same side, and believes it’s the same case with Jesus.

Quadruple injury update

18:20 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta, yesterday, gave update on the fitness of Declan Rice, Jurrien Timber, Leandro Trossard and William Saliba ahead of hosting Wolves in the Premier League.

The Gunners have been hit hard by injuries over the past few weeks and were without eight players for Wednesday’s win at Club Brugge.

Arsenal will still definitely be without Cristhian Mosquera, Gabriel, Kai Havertz and Max Dowman for tonight's clash against Wolves.

And Arteta remains unsure if any will return to face the Premier League’s whipping boys.

Predicted Arsenal XI

18:15 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Mikel Arteta may not have to rush Declan Rice back as he could opt to play with a midfield trio of Eberechi Eze, Martin Odegaard and Martin Zubimendi.

Arsenal played with Eze and Odegaard as two No8s earlier this season, when they hosted West Ham.

In attack, Viktor Gyokeres will hope to lead the line again after starting in Club Brugge and getting just over an hour under his belt.

Bukayo Saka was rested for that game, but should return. Noni Madueke could keep his place in team after scoring twice against Brugge, however he may have to move to the left flank.

Arsenal predicted XI (4-3-3): Raya; White, Timber, Hincapie, Lewis-Skelly; Odegaard, Zubimendi, Eze; Saka, Gyokeres, Madueke.

(London Standard)

Viktor Gyokeres's doubters are back

18:10 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Viktor Gyokeres has not had an easy start to life at Arsenal, writes Simon Collings.

The striker’s protracted transfer saga in the summer meant he arrived late for pre-season, and then an injury to Kai Havertz in the opening game of the campaign meant he had to exclusively lead the line for months.

Gyokeres started 13 of Arsenal’s first 15 games of the season and - just when he got up to speed - injured his hamstring.

The Swede had begun to silence his doubters before that injury during Arsenal’s win at Burnley last month, but now they are back.

Score prediction

17:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

The gap in quality should be evident tonight. While Arsenal have a crisis in defence, they are getting their attackers back at the right time.

If Wolves defend like they did against United then it’s a chance for the Gunners to fill their boots and prove the Aston Villa loss was nothing more than a blip.

Arsenal to win, 4-0.

Wolves team news

17:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Wolves will be without midfielder Marshall Munetsi for the trip to London but Joao Gomes is available again after serving a suspension in the loss to Manchester United.

Rodrigo Gomes, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, Daniel Bentley and Leon Chiwome are all sidelined.

Arsenal team news: Rice and Saliba doubtful

17:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

The Gunners will hope to have Declan Rice back in the team after the midfielder missed the win over Club Brugge through illness.

William Saliba has now missed the last four games and is a doubt alongside Leandro Trossard who sustained a fresh knock in the defeat to Aston Villa.

Jurrien Timber faces a late fitness test after sitting out the win in Bruges, with youngster Marli Salmon on standby if the Dutchman fails to recover from the kick he suffered at Villa Park.

Riccardo Calafiori is suspended which means Myles Lewis-Skelly is set to keep his place at left-back, but Gabriel, Kai Havertz, Cristhian Mosquera and Max Dowman are all out injured.
