Arsenal vs Rennes: Alexandre Lacazette back as Europa League suspension is cut

Arsenal manager Unai Emery has been handed a boost ahead of the Europa League second leg tie with Rennes this week as he will be able to call upon Alexandre Lacazette once more after the striker’s suspension was cut short.

The Frenchman was handed a three-match ban following a straight red card during Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat away at BATE Borisov during their last-32 first leg meeting.

However, having sat out the second leg of that tie and 3-1 defeat in France last week, Arsenal have seen an appeal reduce the suspension to just two games.

The Uefa Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body’s decision read: “The appeal lodged by Arsenal FC has been partially upheld.

To suspend the Arsenal FC player Alexandre Lacazette for two (2) Uefa competition matches for which he would be otherwise eligible for serious rough play.

Despite Lacazette’s return, Arsenal will be without defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos who was sent of following two yellow cards during the first leg against Rennes.

Having come from behind in the last-32, Arsenal must once again triumph at the Emirates in order to reach the quarter finals.
