Arsenal vs Crystal Palace LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and reaction after Eze winner

Arsenal vs Crystal Palace LIVE

With Liverpool in free fall, Arsenal bid to capitalise on their fourth successive Premier League defeat as they play Crystal Palace. Victory at Emirates Stadium would move the Gunners seven points ahead of title rivals Liverpool and firmly establish them as favourites to be crowned champions.

Arsenal have made a brilliant start to the season under Mikel Arteta and continued their fine form when they dismantled Atletico Madrid 4-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday. That win means they have now have six straight wins in all competitions and the Gunners are boosted by the fitness of Gabriel.

But Arsenal face a tough test against a Palace side who have themselves looking good under Oliver Glasner. The Eagles could move into the top four with a win. Follow the game LIVE below with our dedicated match blog, featuring expert insight and analysis from Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal 1-0 Crystal Palace

15:37 , Giuseppe Muro

79 mins: Palace attack and Nketiah does well to beat Mosquera and cross for Mateta, who’s goalbound effort is blocked brilliantly by Gabriel behind for a corner… which comes to nothing.

Arsenal 1-0 Crystal Palace

15:33 , Giuseppe Muro

75 mins: Palace are enjoying a decent little spell now and seeing more of the ball.

Arsenal 1-0 Crystal Palace

15:31 , Giuseppe Muro

72 mins: After Liverpool lost yesterday and with Manchester City losing, Arsenal are 18 minutes away from what would be a huge result in the title race.

Arsenal 1-0 Crystal Palace

15:28 , Giuseppe Muro

70 mins: The first time Palace have been in the Arsenal box in the second half as Raya deals with a cross from Sarr.

Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium

15:27 , Giuseppe Muro

Martinelli should give Arsenal an injection of pace in the closing moments. I don't think Saka trained fully this week, hence why he makes way.

Arsenal 1-0 Crystal Palace

15:26 , Giuseppe Muro

68 mins: Another set-piece and another big chance for Arsenal. Gyokeres heads wide at the back post as Gabriel clatters into the post.

15:25 , Giuseppe Muro

67 mins: Arsenal really pressing for a second goal now. Palace have offered nothing so far in the second half.

Arsenal 1-0 Crystal Palace

Arsenal 1-0 Crystal Palace

15:17 , Giuseppe Muro

58 mins: Palace change... Nketiah on for Pino. Can he come back to haunt his old club?

Arsenal 1-0 Crystal Palace

15:16 , Giuseppe Muro

57 mins: Chance for Trossard! Great ball over the top from Gabriel finds Trossard in space, he pokes the ball past Henderson but Palace hack the ball away off the line.

Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium

15:12 , Giuseppe Muro

A better start from Arsenal to this one, compared to the first. I do think Palace will start to tire and feel the effect of Thursday night.

Arsenal 1-0 Crystal Palace

15:09 , Giuseppe Muro

49 mins: Off the bar... then how does that staty out!? Rice plays the free-kick short and gets it back from Eze, he crosses to the back posit and Gabriel crashes a header against the crossbar. Then Rice thumps a shot goalwards that Henderson somehow keeps out on the line. What a save!

Arsenal 1-0 Crystal Palace

15:07 , Giuseppe Muro

48 mins: Calafiori gets to the byline on the left, tries to cut inside and Munoz handles as he slides to stop him. Another free-kick for Arsenal in a cross position. Rice over it...

Arsenal 1-0 Crystal Palace

15:03 , Giuseppe Muro

46 mins: Back underway in the secod half...

15:03 , Giuseppe Muro

There is an Arsenal change at the break. Mosquera comes on for Saliba. There was no sign of any injury but Arteta will provide the latest after the game.

14:56 , Giuseppe Muro

Although they lead, Arsenal have been pretty flat so far. You wonder whether Arteta might look at freshening things up in the second half. Martinelli is in good form and could provide a spark.

Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium

14:50 , Giuseppe Muro

A pretty lacklustre opening 30 minutes from Arsenal, although Palace deserve credit for their setup, but they lead at the break. Great finish from Eze and exactly the kind of "magic moment" Arsenal bought him for.

Half-time: Arsenal 1-0 Crystal Palace

14:48 , Giuseppe Muro

A difficult first half for Arsenal… but they lead at the break and are on course for a big three points.

14:45 , Giuseppe Muro

Here’s that Eze stunner...

Arsenal 1-0 Crystal Palace

14:43 , Giuseppe Muro

‘Set-piece again…’ rings round Emirates.

Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium

14:43 , Giuseppe Muro

Would imagine Glasner is not happy with Pino about conceding that free-kick. Saka was going away from goal, no threat, and he needlessly fouled him.

GOAL! Arsenal 1-0 Crystal Palace | Eze 39’

14:39 , Giuseppe Muro

Eze against his old club! And it comes from a set-piece...

Rice's free-kick is met by Gabriel, whose header falls perfectly for Eze to volley brilliantly past Henderson.

A game that has been low in quality is brought to life and Arsenal lead.

Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:38 , Giuseppe Muro

38 mins: Arsenal win another free-kick in the Palace half. This time in a more central position. Rice over it again...

Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:29 , Giuseppe Muro

28 mins: Great feet from Timber, who wins Arsenal a free-kick in a crossing position on the right. Set-piece Arsenal in a dangerous position. Rice over it…

Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium

14:28 , Giuseppe Muro

Credit to Palace their press and defensive shape is so well organised. Arsenal can't find a way through and the home crowd are starting to get a little restless.

Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:27 , Giuseppe Muro

27 mins: Arsenal fans try to get the team going… as Wharton has a swing form distance but his shot trickles wide. Wharton wants a corner and he is unlucky not to get one, that took a nick off an Arsenal defender.

Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:24 , Giuseppe Muro

24 mins: Chance for Palace! Mateta plays in Munoz and he stings the palms of Raya. The flag goes up but Palace are looking more and more of a threat.

Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:22 , Giuseppe Muro

22 mins: It’s a bit flat inside Emirates stadium. A loose pass from Zubimendi presents a chance for Palace but a brilliant block from Gabriel denies Sarr.

14:20 , Giuseppe Muro

Good news for Arsenal from another of the 2pm kick-offs... Manchester City are losing 1-0 at Aston Villa.

Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:20 , Giuseppe Muro

19 mins: Vital slidingchallenge from Wharton to Eze as he weaved his way into the penalty area.

Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:19 , Giuseppe Muro

17 mins: Good play from Palace, who are settling into this now and seeing a fair bit of the ball in the attacking third. Sarr just gets his pass to Munoz wrong and an attack comes to nothing.

Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium

14:16 , Giuseppe Muro

Eighty-three per cent possession, but Arsenal have not had a shot on goal. Tells you all you need to know about the opening 15 minutes.

Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:15 , Giuseppe Muro

14 mins: A few groans from Arsenal fans as Gyokeres is played in over the top but he is eventually forced wide before Palace win back possession

Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:13 , Giuseppe Muro

12 mins: Palace have made a decent start here and Glasner will be encouraged with what he has seen so far. Arsenal are yet to really get going.

Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:09 , Giuseppe Muro

9 mins: Arsenal clear the corner...

Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:09 , Giuseppe Muro

8 mins: Palace attempt to play out from the back from a goal kick and Wharton almost gets caught inside his own box. But Palace scramble the ball clear and Mateta does brilliantly to win a corner.

Simon Collings at Emirates Stadium

14:07 , Giuseppe Muro

Eze is finding some pockets of space in that right No8 channel, but the final ball has been lacking. He needs more movement ahead of him.

Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:06 , Giuseppe Muro

5 mins: Eze has already been heavily involved earlier on against his old club. Palace spring an attack but a cross from Pino evades everyone and goes behind for a goal kick.

Arsenal 0-0 Crystal Palace

14:03 , Giuseppe Muro

2 mins: Lively start. Gabriel clears some danger in the Arsenal box and down the other end Trossard almost slips in Gyokeres.

Kick-off!

14:01 , Giuseppe Muro

1 mins: We’re underway at Emirates Stadium!

George Graham is here at Arsenal today at sat in the Directors' Box.

Surely he is a big fan of this back-four that Arteta has put together.

13:54 , Giuseppe Muro

The teams are in the tunnel. A reminder of the two teams...

Henderson: Pressure on Arsenal

13:47 , Giuseppe Muro

Crystal Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson says this afternoon is a “free hit” for the Eagles.

Speaking ahead of the game, Henderson said: “The reality is, you go to the Emirates and it's a free hit.

“We've got to go there, play with confidence, enjoy playing there, and see what we can do to cause an upset.

“We have to use it as a one-off game. The pressure is on them. We look forward to it. It’s a free hit. We'll give it our best shot. We've delivered against teams like that before, so why not do it again?”

Mateta threat for Crystal Palace

13:38 , Giuseppe Muro

Jean-Philippe Mateta scored a hat-trick for Crystal Palace last weekend but Oliver Glasner has called on his team to be more clinical.

Eight of Mateta’s last nine Premier League goals have been scored in London, and he has netted five goals in his last eight London derbies.

Mateta is also only the third Palace player to net five goals in their eight matches of a Premier League season, along with Andrew Johnson in 2004-05 and Wilfried Zaha in 2020-21.

13:34 , Giuseppe Muro

Mikel Arteta also issued a rallying cry to his players when he was asked if today feels like a big day after Liverpool slipped up yesterday.

Arteta said: “Every week [is big] in this league because of the difficulty for everybody to win matches.

“Be present, be in the moment, perform really well today and earn the right to win the game.”

Arteta: Gabriel 'ready to go'

13:29 , Giuseppe Muro

Mikel Arteta has been speaking to Sky Sports ahead of kick-off and the Arsenal manager has said Gabriel is “ready to go”.

Arteta said: “He trained, he was really willing, he said is fine… so he is ready to go.

“We know the impact he is having for us in the last few seasons. This season again he has been exceptional.

“He is a very reliable player and we are very happy to have him.”

Set-piece again?

13:22 , Giuseppe Muro

Arsenal lead the way for corner goals (7) and goals from set-pieces (10) in the Premier League this season, finding the net with a set piece in six of their eight games so far.

It is the earliest into a season any team has scored 10 set-piece goals in Premier League history.

As expected,Crystal Palace make three changes to the team beaten by AEK Larnaca in midweek.

Chris Richards, Adam Wharton and Daichi Kamada return to the starting line up.

12:57 , Giuseppe Muro

Aside from the Gabriel boost, Arteta has opted for Leandro Trossard and Riccardo Calafiori on the left flank.

Gabriel Martinelli and Myles Lewis-Skelly both impressed after coming into the team against Atletico but Trossard and Calafiori return in the only two changes from midweek.

Eberechi Eze starts against his former club.

A big boost for Arsenal that Gabriel is fit.

Mosquera has been excellent since signing, but he cannot replace what Gabriel offers in both boxes.

Eze urged to focus ahead of Crystal Palace reunion

12:28 , Giuseppe Muro

Mikel Arteta has told Eberechi Eze his focus must be on Arsenal ahead of his “special" Crystal Palace reunion.

Eze is set to face his former team for the first time since his £60million transfer to north London.

He spent five years at Selhurst Park and posted an emotional message to the club's supporters when he completed his move to Arsenal in August.

When asked about the significance of Sunday's match for Eze, Arteta replied: "It's a big game for us, because last season here we dropped points so our focus is on that.

"We know that for Ebs it's going to be a very special match, with the history and what he did for Palace. There is something in the tummy (when you play against a former club).

"There are a lot of emotions, there are very close relationships, but the focus is on the team. And I am sure Ebs is going to be ready for that."

Can Arsenal capitalise after latest Liverpool slip-up?

12:14 , Giuseppe Muro

A reminder that Arsenal can move SEVEN points clear of title rivals Liverpool with a win today after their defeat at Brentford yesterday.

Arsenal will kick-off two points clear of second-placed Sunderland and three points clear of third-placed Manchester City, who travel to Aston Villa for a tricky game in another 2pm kick-off.

So today feels like it could be a big day in the title race.

Head-to-head history and results

12:06 , Giuseppe Muro

Crystal Palace have not won at the Emirates since April 2019, when Christian Benteke, Wilfried Zaha and James McArthur all scored in a 3-2 win.

Arsenal wins: 34

Crystal Palace wins: 6

Draws: 17

Prediction

11:58 , Giuseppe Muro

Mikel Arteta has Arsenal in formidable shape and, after watching them dismantle Atletico in midweek, few would put their money on a Crystal Palace upset.

Now Viktor Gyokeres has rediscovered his goalscoring form, it is incredibly difficult to find a weakness in the side.

Palace are a strong side but they will have their work cut out for them at the Emirates.

Arsenal to win, 3-1.

Crystal Palace team news

11:50 , Giuseppe Muro

Chris Richards, Daichi Kamada and Adam Wharton were rested for Thursday’s Conference League defeat to AEK Larnaca and should come back into the Crystal Palace side.

Cheick Doucoure has been out all season with a knee injury, while defenders Chadi Riad and Caleb Kporha remain sidelined.

Jean-Philippe Mateta will be looking to continue his fine form after scoring a hat-trick against Bournemouth last weekend.

Arsenal team news

11:42 , Giuseppe Muro

Arsenal hope to have Gabriel available after he was forced off in Tuesday’s 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

Mikel Arteta said on Friday that he was unsure if Gabriel will be able to play but the Brazilian centre-back was spotted in training ahead of the Palace game and joined the Arsenal squad on their pre-match walk on Sunday morning.

Arteta faces a selection dilemma on the left flank after Gabriel Martinelli and Myles Lewis-Skelly both came into the team and did well against Atletico.

Leandro Trossard and Riccardo Calafiori could both come back in.

Arteta is unlikely to make many more changes, given that Arsenal face Brighton in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.
