Arsenal vs Chelsea: Danny Welbeck could make Gunners farewell in Europa League final

Danny Welbeck could make his Arsenal farewell in next week's Europa League final against Chelsea.

The forward has been absent since November after breaking his ankle but now looks certain to be fit to face Maurizio Sarri's Blues in Baku.

According to the Daily Mail, Welbeck is due to be named on the bench for the all-English final.

With the 28-year-old leaving in the summer, this would be his final game for Arsenal after five seasons at the club.

Welbeck reportedly featured in Thursday's behind-closed-doors game against Austrian side LASK Linz.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan's voluntary absence further paves the way for Welbeck to feature in Wednesday's final.

Mkhitaryan decided against playing travelling to Baku over security fears.

Hostility remains between neighbouring countries Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed Nagorno Karabakh region, where a ceasefire was declared in 1994 after fighting erupted several years earlier.

Mkhitaryan, captain of the Armenia national team, missed the Europa League group game against Qarabag in Baku earlier this season because of the issue.

The club are now working with Uefa in the hope safety measures can be put in place to allow the 30-year-old to travel for the final as part of Unai Emery's squad.
