Mikel Arteta’s side struggled to make much of a case to be considered as a Champions League level team on Sunday afternoon.
Despite bossing the game for large parts, Burnley were rarely troubled aside from a brief spell of sustained pressure led by Emile Smith Rowe towards the end of the second-half.
With the January transfer window still open, the need to bring in a new forward has only increased. Arsenal should be praised for making great strides under Arteta’s watch but, frankly, without a goalscorer, it’s hard to see how this project catches fire.
Clearly, things do not work as easily as merely putting a forward into the team and getting results, although it has to be the next area of investment. If the right one arrives, Arsenal simply won’t have days like this.
