Arsenal vs Bournemouth LIVE: Premier League result, latest updates and reaction after Arsenal beaten at home

Frustrated: Martin Odegaard - (Action Images via Reuters)

Arsenal vs Bournemouth LIVE

Arsenal made it just two League wins from six as they fell at home to Bournemouth on Saturday. For Bournemouth, the result will fan the flames of their quest for Champions League qualification after a poor run of results saw them slip down the table.

Rice’s opener came after a dismal start to the match where he had found himself in some good positions but struggled to make anything of them. He squandered two shooting chances in the early stages, later falling into the advertising hoardings as he made a weak attempt at a cross. But he took the opener with icy precision, latching onto Martin Odegaard’s through ball, taking it round Arrizabalaga and scoring into an empty net.

Chances went both ways in the second half, but neither team managed to create much tangible threat. It would be Arsenal ruing their misses, though. Moments after his introduction, Anthoine Semenyo heaved a long throw into the box for Dean Huijsen to head a deserved equaliser home. Evanilson would put the Cherries ahead as he wrestled with Odegaard. He had minimal agency in the goal, the ball seeming to bounce off him rather than be intentionally directed at Raya, but, after a lengthy VAR check, Bournemouth’s lead was confirmed.

This is now, officially, Rice's best ever season in terms of attacking output: eight goals and 10 assists.

9mins: More sloppy passing from Arsenal as Partey’s on-the-ground pass to Saka only finds touch.

Simon Collings at the Emirates

Mikel Arteta previews the fixture

17:16 , Arthur Ferridge

Arteta’s take on today’s action...

On injury news: “Both Merino and Timber are unable to start. Jurrien is out, lets see how he evolves. The rest are ok.”

On the League: “We have a lot to do in the Premier League. We have worked many months to win it, and we want to be best of the rest.”

On Bournemouth’s style: “We face intensity a lot in the Premier League. It stands out with this team and can cause you problems but we are the same.”

On Andoni Iraola: “Andoni is so consistent, clear in their intentions, where they want to take the game. They have been very impressive.”

Evanilson's return to boost Bournemouth

17:09 , Arthur Ferridge

Evanilson marked Bournemouth’s club record signing when he arrived from Porto.

He is back in the squad today having served his red card suspension - he was sent off against Man United in late April.

He has 11 goals in 28 appearances for the Cherries this season.

Andoni Iraola speaks to Sky Sports

17:06 , Arthur Ferridge

Iraola previews the tie.

On the run in: “Its true that now every result is very important. Playing Arsenal away, the match will be so difficult, you have to try to give them a good game and be able to get a result that we know won’t be easy.”

On Arsenal naming a strong side amid the UCL run: “We respect what has happened. You will always face their best eleven, but it is good that they respect us and need that to get a result against us.”

What can Raheem Sterling do today?

17:01 , Arthur Ferridge

It has been a tough stay at the Emirates for Raheem Sterling. Looking to revive his career when he joined, he has managed just two assists and no goals in 15 Premier League appearances.

With Mikel Arteta likely to give Bukayo Saka a bit of a rest in the second half today, can Sterling come on and recall the glory days which saw him win so much silverware with Man City?

A starlet on the bench for Arsenal

17:01 , Arthur Ferridge

17-year-old defender Brayden Clark, son of Barclays-era journeyman Nigel Quashie, makes the bench today.

Will Arteta hand him a debut as he looks to rest his key players?

Bournemouth risk losing key players this summer

16:53

The Cherries’ resurgent season has seen much of their squad placed on various Premier League shopping lists.

Dean Huijsen and Milos Kerkez, both of whom will start this afternoon, are linked to various top clubs. Bournemouth are already facing a battle to hold onto either - will their performances this afternoon boost their price tags?

The scores around the grounds

16:46 , Arthur Ferridge

There have been three other Premier League ties today.

Aston Villa downed Fulham in the early kickoff by way of a Youri Tielemans header.

Elsewhere, Leicester lead Southampton 2-0, while Ipswich Town have rallied back at Goodison Park, levelling the tie having been two goals behind early on.

The next Colney graduate in line...

16:42 , Arthur Ferridge

Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri have played key roles for Arsenal in their breakout seasons, but is there another wonderkid in line?

Mikel Arteta has hinted that 15-year-old Max Dowman could be set to play a key role next season after enjoying a dominant season with the U18s.

No Jurrien Timber

16:33 , Arthur Ferridge

There is one notable absence from the Arsenal squad, in the shape of Jurrien Timber.

It seems to be a knock for the Dutch defender.

Arteta's decisions

16:24 , Arthur Ferridge

Mikel Arteta has brought Thomas Partey back into the squad, but opted to rest the increasingly key Mikel Merino ahead of the second leg in Paris.

Leandro Trossard also returns to the centre-forward role which he played in the first leg against PSG, creating some chances but ultimately failing to score.

Caotain Odegaard will look to arrest his shaky run of form - a goal or two could be crucial as the Norway international looks to build confidence ahead of the second leg.

Can Arsenal confirm their Champions League qualification today?

16:06 , Arthur Ferridge

With Newcastle and Man City pulling closer to Arsenal than ever, nothing is given. The fight for Champions League qualification is so tight, nobody is safe... yet.

But the Gunners need just two wins from their final four fixtures to take their tally to 73, enough to confirm their qualification.

Still to face Newcastle, Southampton, and newly crowned champions Liverpool, though, nothing is given.

Last time out

15:55 , Arthur Ferridge

There was high drama at the Vitality in the reverse of this fixture.

William Saliba’s first-half red card was hotly debated for weeks after the fact. He was dismissed after a VAR check, having clumsily pulled down Evanislon on the halfway line, convicted of denying a clear goalscoring opportunity.

Ryan Christie and Justin Kluivert would later score to secure all three points for the hosts.

Arteta will hope to get through this afternoon’s tie with no disciplinary issues and a more complimentary scoreline.

Looking at the history...

15:45 , Arthur Ferridge

Bournemouth have only ever beat Arsenal twice, once earlier this year in a controversial tie at the Vitality and again in January 2018, the Cherries’ 2-1 win secured by goals from Callum Wilson and Jordon Ibe (Arsenal’s goalscorer was Hector Bellerin).

This tie, though, has only ever wrought one result at the Emirates: Arsenal wins, seven times out of seven, and an eighth at Highbury in the 1987/88 League Cup.

Full head-to-head:

Arsenal wins: 13

Bournemouth wins: 2

Draws: 2

Arsenal's recent form

15:35 , Arthur Ferridge

How have Man City been able to catch Arsenal? Well, the Gunners have dropped points in three of their last five Premier League matches:

D, 2-2 vs Crystal Palace (H)

W, 0-4 vs Ipswich Town (A)

D, 1-1 vs Brentford (H)

D, 1-1 vs Everton (A)

W, 2-1 vs Fulham (H)

Will Arsenal rotate?

15:25

Arsenal have what could fairly be described as an era-defining tie in midweek as they travel to Paris Saint-Germain for the Champions League semi-final second leg.

They trail by one goal in the tie, meaning Arteta will need his squad at full strength for the trip.

But what does that mean for today’s squad? Arsenal will want to put this afternoon’s match to bed early to give Arteta the opportunity to rest his key players.

What a win means for Bournemouth

15:12 , Arthur Ferridge

Bournemouth were among the surprise packages in this year’s Premier League, at one stage of the season looking likely to qualify for the Champions League as they peaked at fifth in the table.

But they have stumbled in recent weeks, falling to tenth place.

A win could put them as high as eighth, though, after Fulham lost away to Aston Villa in the early kickoff.

Predicted Arsenal XI

15:00 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Mikel Arteta, often, rotated the full-backs in between European games last month, so Jurrien Timber and Myles Lewis-Skelly may well be rested.

Ben White is the only other option at right-back, while Kieran Tierney and Oleksandr Zinchenko will fight to start on the other flank.

In midfield, Arteta is not blessed with plenty of options given Jorginho is still out injured.

Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, as a result, may start - unless Ethan Nwaneri, Mikel Merino or Zinchenko comes in.

Predicted Arsenal XI (4-3-3): Raya; White, Saliba, Kiwior, Zinchenko; Odegaard, Partey, Rice; Saka, Merino, Trossard

Havertz latest

14:50 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said Kai Havertz is on course to return to action before the end of the season.

Havertz has been out since the start of February after undergoing hamstring surgery. At the time, it was thought his campaign was over as the club confirmed that his recovery was “expected to extend into pre-season preparations for next season”.

However, Havertz has made good progress in recent weeks and could yet play in one of Arsenal’s remaining fixtures of the season.

Arsenal vs Bournemouth stats

14:45 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

- Arsenal have won all eight of their home games against Bournemouth in all competitions, scoring 23 goals and conceding just four.

- Bournemouth have kept just one clean sheet in their 15 Premier League meetings with Arsenal, though it was a 2-0 victory in the reverse fixture this season.

- Arsenal have failed to win nine Premier League games in which they led so far this season (D9), more than they had in the previous two campaigns combined (4 in 2022-23, 4 in 2023-24). They’ve never failed to win 10 games from ahead in a single season before.

Mikel Arteta rules out wholesale Arsenal changes

14:40 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

The Premier League has become a sideshow for Arsenal in their quest to win the Champions League for the first time.

Their form is evidence of that and the Gunners have drawn three of their last four league games, with their only win coming at the now relegated Ipswich.

Arteta made 17 changes to his team across those four matches and he will undoubtedly make some more on Saturday.

But the Spaniard has ruled out wholesale changes as he bids to build momentum ahead of Wednesday’s trip to the Parc des Princes.

Arsenal vs Bournemouth: Head to head (h2h) history and results

14:25 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal wins: 13

Bournemouth wins: 2

Draws: 2

Bournemouth beat Arsenal for the first time since 2018 back in October, when Ryan Christie and Justin Kluivert were both on target in a 2-0 home triumph.

The Gunners have otherwise dominated this fixture and scored plenty of goals in the process, with Bournemouth still searching for their first away win at Arsenal.

Score prediction

14:20 , Tashan Deniran-Alleyne

Arsenal simply have bigger priorities to worry about this week and Bournemouth will rightly be spying an opportunity at the Emirates.

Though they likely yet need a couple of positive league results to ensure they are not embarrassed by falling out of second place, all the focus for the Gunners is on their pivotal trip to Paris.

That will surely be reflected in Arteta’s team selection, with a weakened lineup set to face a difficult test against a Bournemouth side looking to rediscover their verve and consistency under Iraola.

Every game is huge now for the Cherries as they look to snatch a place in Europe for the first time, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them claim at least a point this weekend.

Draw, 1-1.
