Arsenal vs BATE player ratings: Alexandre Lacazette sees red and Henrikh Mkhitaryan poor in shock 1-0 loss

Arsenal were stunned in Belarus on Thursday night as they slipped to a 1-0 defeat to BATE Borisov.

The Premier League side were the overwhelming favourites to win but must now beat BATE in the return fixture next week if they are to reach the Europa League Round of 16 stage.

Arsenal dominated possession throughout but fell a goal behind moments before the half-time whistle. BATE captain Ihar Stasevich swung in an inch-perfect cross for Stanislaw Dragun, who climbed above Sead Kolasinac and powered a header past Petr Cech.

Unsurprisingly Arsenal ramped up the pressure in the second-half but failed to find an equaliser. Alexandre Lacazette did put the ball in the back of the net when he finished from close-range, only for the goal to be correctly ruled out for offside.

Lacazette’s evening then went from bad to worse when the French striker saw red late on for swinging his arm into the face of Aleksandar Filipović. The straight red card means that Lacazette will be suspended for next week’s second-leg. It is the first the 27-year-old has been sent-off in his professional career. Here is how we rated the two teams.
