Arsenal urged to seal 'perfect' striker transfer as Edu told he can sign his own Didier Drogba

Nobody in England scored more goals domestically last season than Ivan Toney did for Brentford.

After signing from League One Peterborough United in the summer of 2020, Toney spear-headed the Bees' promotion to the Premier League, scoring 33 goals and assisting 10 more.

The step up to the Premier League has not daunted him either. He scored his second goal of the season in a dominant display against Wolves on Saturday and assisted Bryan Mbeumo, as well as having two other goals ruled out for offside.

He is a player Chelsea were looking at last season, according to Peterborough's director of football Barry Fry, and someone Arsenal fans are starting to like the look of.

After his excellent display in the West Midlands, Toney's teammate, Christian Norgaard, compared the front-man to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.

“I think Bryan and Ivan did a fantastic job and they [are] linking up very well at the moment," the midfielder told BT Sport after the full-time whistle.

“I heard someone in the changing room comparing Ivan with Didier Drogba. I think he looked a bit like him actually - the way he kept the ball, his first touch and his passes.

“He won every single header and he is a right player.”

Fry revealed that the Blues were considering Toney as a back-up option this summer had a move for a first-choice front-man fallen through.

“I still think [teams] like Everton and even Chelsea [are interested in him]," Fry told This Is Futbol, in the summer.

“I know Chelsea are looking at the top range of centre-forwards, but I know they’ve watched him and like him, and if they don’t get [plan] A, B, and C, who knows?

“Then I expect Ivan to go for £40m, £45m, £50m, but now he’s got them in the Premier League, only the top clubs could afford him.”

As Arsenal continue to struggle in the goals department, however, many Gunners' fans are starting to dream of Mikel Arteta and Edu making a move for the striker as well.
