Arsenal unbeaten run dismissed as 'just statistics' by disappointed Bernd Leno

Bernd Leno has dismissed Arsenal's 16-game unbeaten run as "just a statistic" amid the disappointment of Sunday's 1-1 draw with Wolves.

The Gunners lost ground on the top four after Henrikh Mkhitaryan struck late to rescue a point against the Premier League newcomers at Emirates Stadium.

Ivan Cavaleiro had put the visitors in front in the first period before Mkhitaryan's deep cross evaded everyone and crept inside Rui Patrício's far post.

The visitors used their electric pace to counter-attack and Leno saved well from Helder Costa and Jimenez before Cavaleiro made Arsenal pay for another sluggish start.

The German was the busiest of the goalkeepers in the opening half an hour, pushing another Costa effort away as Nuno Espirito Santo's side continued to pressurise the Arsenal defence.

With Arsenal chasing an equaliser in the second period, Wolves caught them on the break and Leno again had to be alert to turn away Diogo Jota's shot.

But Leno, who also denied Adama Traore following Mkhitaryan's equaliser, was dissatisfied. He said: "After the game we are a little bit disappointed because we wanted to win. We needed the points to get in the top four.

"The result is not the best for us today."

Despite failing to claim maximum points, the Gunners extended their unbeaten run to 16 games across all competitions. It leaves them just three points behind rivals Spurs, who occupy fourth spot, in the race for Champions League berth.

It was Arsenal's third successive League draw and Leno was disappointed to miss out on maximum points again.

Asked about the unbeaten run, the goalkeeper said: "I think it's just a statistic. We wanted to win the game, we just drew. A little disappointing - the most important is that we win the next games."
