Arsenal transfer target Aaron Ramsdale given huge vote of confidence as saga rumbles on

Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale continues to be linked with a big-money summer move to Arsenal.

Ramsdale is set to play Championship football next season after being relegated with Sheffield United following a disappointing 2020/21 campaign.

Despite the Blades' demotion, Ramsdale won plenty of praise for his performances last term. His form even won him a late call-up to the senior England squad and he was part of the group that reached the Euro 2020 final earlier this month.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is in the market for another goalkeeper to compete with Bernd Leno. According to Sky Sports , the Gunners have already had two bids turned down so far for Ramsdale.

It remains unclear whether the club will sanction a third bid, with United said to be holding out for a tag of £30million.

Wherever Ramsdale ends up, a former teammate of his has backed him for big things. Asmir Begovic was a colleague of the 23-year-old's at Bournemouth.

Speaking to talkSPORT , the Everton custodian said: “He can become one of the best, especially in the country. He’s already proved that he can play at the highest level. He’s got a lot of potential still to fulfil.

“The more he plays, the more he’s going to progress.

"So I’m not surprised to see him linked with some of the top clubs.

“What he’s done over the last couple of years shows everyone the quality he has. With his age, where he’s at, the potential is there to become an even better goalkeeper.”

Arsenal have also been linked with another England goalkeeper, Sam Johnstone. The West Brom stopper was also relegated last season, but is thought to be available for a much lower fee than Ramsdale.
