Arsenal transfer stance on signing Norwich City midfielder Emi Buendia in January

Arsenal have not made contact with Norwich for Emi Buendia and a January departure is 'dependent' on the Championship side, football.london understands.

The 23-year-old was a stand-out player for the Canaries in their disappointing Premier League campaign last season, creating 3.1 chances per 90 minutes and notching seven assists as they were relegated from the top flight.

He is one of several players on the Gunners' transfer shortlist although football.london understands Arsenal have made no formal approach for the Argentine who manager Mikel Arteta is an admirer of.

A source close to the player told football.london that Buendia is "focused on Norwich and getting promoted" but refused to rule out a possible January move saying that "it depends on Norwich".

Buendia's key pass rate of 3.3 per 90 minutes last season was only second to Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne, while he created 70 chances which was only bettered by the Belgian and Liverpool's Trent Alexander Arnold.

The agency which represents Buendia has strong connections with Arsenal having looked after Alexis Sanchez and Emi Martinez at the club in the past few years.

Martinez left Arsenal this summer after spending over a decade at the club in a deal worth £20million and played in the FA Cup final win against Chelsea last season.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are assessing whether to sign Dominik Szoboszlai in January, with a more experienced option being considered as Arteta looks to fill the creativity void with proven Premier League pedigree.

Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar has revealed he will stay at the club until next summer, with Arsenal expected to make a reopen talks then after lodging a €35 million bid for the Frenchman in September -€15million less than president Jean Michel Aulas' €50million asking price.

A move for Inter's Christian Eriksen is also being weighed up although no decision has been made on whether a formal offer will be made for the former Tottenham midfielder next month.
