Arsenal transfer rumours: William Saliba U-turn, Thomas Partey's decision explained

Arsenal return to Premier League action at the weekend, as the Gunners travel to Manchester City on Saturday evening.

It’s been an impressive start to the season for Mikel Arteta’s side, made even better by a busy transfer window.

With the January window looming, there are still plenty of ins and outs being speculated about.

Here are the latest Arsenal transfer rumours.

Arsenal’s Saliba u-turn

Arsenal boss Arteta wants to keep defender William Saliba until January at least, despite loan links, according to The Athletic.

Saliba came close to moving on loan before the summer deadline last week, but a deal couldn’t be completed in time.

It seemed as if the Gunners wanted to loan the 19-year-old in order to get him some valuable first-team experience.

However, Arteta and Arsenal have reportedly had a change of heart and will keep hold of the teenage defender for the time-being at least.

Partey’s father helped persuade son to join Arsenal

Thomas Partey’s father, Jacob, helped persuade his son to choose Arsenal over Chelsea.

Partey signed for the Gunners on deadline day after the London-based club triggered the £45million release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract.

When speaking to MyJoyOnline, Partey’s father explained what he said to his son when talking about his future.

Jacob said: “What I (noticed) was that he was willing to play where there is Champions League (football) but (I suggested to him that) can’t he be where there is no Champions League and help them get into the Champions League?”

Gunners ‘tried until the end’ for Jorginho

Arsenal ‘tried until the end’ of the summer transfer window to sign Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, according to AreaNapoli.

The Italian midfielder emerged as a late target for the Gunners after missing out on Houssem Aouar of Lyon.

However, the former Napoli man could not be persuaded to move across London by Arteta’s side.

The Blues are now set to offer Jorginho a new contract at the club, to reward him for the loyalty he showed.
