Arsenal transfer rumours: Wilfried Zaha could leave, Shkodran Mustafi makes contract admission

Arsenal's 2020/21 campaign started in impressive fashion, but in recent games, Mikel Arteta's side have struggled.

The Gunners have suffered two defeats in as many matches in the Premier League - with a Europa League victory in between.

However, after a progressive summer in terms of transfer business, there is still plenty of optimism in north London, and the January window looks as if it will be targeted to further improve the squad.

Here are the latest Arsenal transfer rumours.

Mikel Arteta takes the blame after failing to get the best out of Mesut Ozil

Gunners target could move on one condition

Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend has claimed reported Arsenal target Wilfried Zaha will leave Selhurst Park if he scored "15 to 20 goals" this season.

Zaha has started the campaign in fine form for the Eagles - scoring five goals in six Premier League appearances.

The Ivorian trickster has previously been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, and his team-mate, Townsend, believes he could leave Palace next summer.

Speaking to talkSPORT (via HITC ), Townsend said: "There are others we can play (instead of Zaha), which is allowing him to get on the ball and get 1 v 1, 1 v 3 or 1 v 4. And this season, he is flourishing. Long may it continue for us. If he does get 15 to 20 goals, like he is on course for, I am sure he will get his move."

Milan target Mustafi

AC Milan are interested in signing Shkodran Mustafi, after the German rejected a new contract at Arsenal, as per a report from Sempre Milan.

The 28-year-old wants to leave the Gunners at the end of the season, football.london understands, and the Serie A giants are now eyeing up a move.

Milan are determined to bolster their centre-back options and Mustafi would be an experienced player to bring to the San Siro.

With Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba both coming to the Emirates this season, Mustafi has fallen further down Arteta's pecking order.

Mustafi comments on contract talk

Despite the aforementioned report concerning Mustafi rejecting a new contract, the Arsenal defender has insisted he would love to stay at the Emirates.

Speaking in a press conference, the German central defender said: "When I made the decision to sign for Arsenal, it is because I respect the club and I think it is a huge club.

"That's why, for me, if I could stay at Arsenal, of course, it would mean a lot to me."

Mustafi refused to be drawn on talks over a new deal with Arsenal, saying: "We haven't been talking about anything, so there isn't anything I can tell you guys."
