Arsenal transfer rumours: Thomas Partey stalemate, Maitland-Niles exit, Boubakary Soumare hunt

Arsenal's new campaign begins in just a few days time, as the Gunners return to Wembley to tackle Premier League winners Liverpool in the Community Shield.

Mikel Arteta heads into the annual curtain-raiser while still on the hunt for new additions, with Gabriel Magalhaes poised to complete a move this week but the defender is subject to a 14-day quarantine.

A host of names continue to be linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, as Arteta prepares for his first full season in charge.

The ultimate lowdown on Houssem Aouar

Here, we have gathered some of the latest snippets surrounding the Gunners.

Thomas Partey stalemate

Arsenal's pursuit of Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey has hit a brick wall despite being locked in negotiations throughout the summer, according to Sky Sports via the Daily Star.

The Gunners have identified the Ghana international as their prime target to bolster their midfield ranks in north London but Atletico are standing firm on their demands for the 27-year-old.

Atletico are demanding that the midfielder's £45m release clause is met for a transfer to go ahead, a figure which Arsenal are unwilling to meet, while it's added Partey will command around £200k-a-week in wages.

Arsenal are extremely reluctant to overpay due to the economic effects of the coronavirus crisis and therefore could walk away from a deal.

Maitland-Niles exit

Wolves are in advanced talks with Arsenal to secure a deal to sign Ainsley Maitland-Niles ahead of the new season, Sky Sports states.

The 22-year-old is looking for more first-team assurances heading into the new campaign and his versatility is seen as a huge asset by Nuno Espirito Santo.

Mikel Arteta is prepared to let the academy graduate leave this summer, in what could be the first in a string of significant exits from the Emirates Stadium.

While a specific price is not mentioned in the report, it has been widely suggested that the Gunners are prepared to sell for around £20m.

Boubakary Soumare hunt

Arsenal are in the hunt to sign Boubakary Soumare from Lille as they look to bolster their midfield ranks ahead of the 2020-21 campaign, Foot Mercato reports.

The Gunners are poised to capture Gabriel Magalhaes from the French side and could reunite him with Soumare next season, with Soumare potentially seen as an alternative to Thomas Partey.

Soumare has also courted the attention of Manchester United, although it's said he is not their first-choice option, and a fight in the transfer market could emerge.

Arsenal have close ties with Lille due to the Gabriel deal, having also signed Nicolas Pepe from the Ligue 1 side last term.
