Arsenal transfer rumours: Thomas Partey pursuit stepped up, Gabriel Magalhaes update

Mikel Arteta achieved success since taking the reigns at Arsenal, guiding the Gunners to FA Cup glory and the Europa League football that comes with it.

However, the north London outfit were well adrift in the battle for Champions League football and are now set for their third successive season outside of Europe's elite competition.

New signings are on the cards in an attempt to close that gap, with Willian's free transfer from Chelsea being announced on Friday to represent the net step in the rebuild.

A host of other names have been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium and we have gathered the latest gossip.

Is Willian worth it and what next? James Benge and Art de Roche dissect the deal

Gunners step-up Partey pursuit

Arsenal are stepping-up their pursuit of Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey after concluding Willian's move across London, the Star states.

Mikel Arteta has made the Ghana international his prime target to rejuvenate the club's midfield ahead of the 2020-21 season but Atletico are demanding that his release clause is met to agree to an exit.

That could require Arsenal to approve departures to help fund a move, with the likes of Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira potentially being offloaded.

It's stated in the report that Arsenal are also eyeing the capture of a new defender, with the two positions highlighted as the Gunners' focus.

Gabriel Magalhaes blow

Arsenal face disappointment in the hunt for Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes as it's reported he is on the verge of following Victor Osimhen to Napoli.

Gianluca Di Marzio states the Brazilian has emerged as the Serie A side's first-choice option to replace Kalidou Koulibaly, who is attracting the interest of Manchester CIty.

Arsenal, Manchester United and Everton are all keen on bringing the highly-rated Gabriel to the Premier League but Napoli have a 'gentleman's agreement with Napoli'.

The French side are said to have honoured that agreement this week by turning down Everton's €20m bid.

Emiliano Martinez interest

Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has revealed that as many as 10 clubs are expressing an interest of landing the stopper's services this summer.

Speaking to Marca, the 27-year-old has stated that he is not yet aware of his situation in north London, where he faces a battle for a starting spot with Bernd Leno.

“I am in the sights of 10 teams in Europe. But I can’t say who those clubs are, because it’s nothing concrete.”

“I still do not have the clear situation with Arsenal, when I have it when I return I will make the best decision for my career.”
