Arsenal transfer rumours: Szoboszlai's agent offers confirmation, Arteta's Martinez admission

Arsenal are preparing for the visit of Aston Villa, with Mikel Arteta's side looking to make it four consecutive wins in all competitions.

The Gunners beat Molde 4-1 in the Europa League on Thursday, with impressive performances from many of Arsenal's young players.

However, with the January transfer window rapidly approaching, it remains to be seen whether the current FA Cup holders will be looking to add some numbers to their squad to help them through to the end of the season.

Here is a round-up of the latest Arsenal transfer rumours and gossip.

Szoboszlai's agent speaks out

Arsenal's interest in Dominik Szoboszlai is concrete, the player's agent has confirmed.

football.london first revealed the Gunners' interest in the Hungary international in the summer of 2019 and scouts have been in regular attendance at Red Bull Salzburg games ever since.

There was talk of Szoboszlai joining Arsenal in the extended summer transfer window, but those links proved to be just rumours as the 20-year-old stayed put in Austria.

Willock told to explore loan move

Owen Hargreaves has suggested Joe Willock should explore a loan switch away from Arsenal if he wants to make the most of his potential and get regular game time.

The 21-year-old has been in top form throughout Arsenal's Europa League campaign, having scored two goals and created another, but is yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Gunners this season.

Speaking to BT Sport following the club's victory over Molde on Thursday, in which Willock scored during the closing stages, former Manchester United star Hargreaves described the midfielder's situation as 'difficult' because of the depth Arsenal have in the middle of the park.

Martinez admission

Mikel Arteta has admitted he never wanted to sell Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa, but couldn't guarantee the Argentinian regular playing time.

"He had a career of 10 years here," explained Arteta, who immediately reinstated Bernd Leno as Arsenal's No.1 following his return from injury.

"It wasn't just the last six or eight months. You have to look at everything he did through his time at the club.

"Obviously, it wasn't in my plans to sell him, but we gave him the chance because he deserved it.

"He performed really really well but we have to balance the books. We have to make the right choices in the market and, obviously, I couldn't guarantee him to be the No.1.

"He's a very ambitious person, he has been working really hard and he can see now that the opportunity (to play regularly) is there (at Villa). He's got the opportunity to play with Argentina and, when a player asks you to do that, I think you have to be open enough and tell him what you think about him.

"If he makes the decision to leave, you should try to support him because he deserves it for the way he has served the club over the years."
