Arsenal transfer rumours: Sokratis swap, Andrea Petagna targeted, Folarin Balogun stance

Arsenal have just a few weeks until their new season begins with a return to Wembley Stadium to face Liverpool in the Community Shield.

The Gunners have added to their ranks by capturing Willian from London rivals Chelsea on a free transfer and are pushing to land Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes.

A host of other names continue to be linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium, as Mikel Arteta looks to rejuvenate his squad in north London.

Here, we have gathered some of the latest snippets surrounding the Gunners.

Sokratis interest

Arsenal defender Sokratis is a summer transfer window target for Roma, according to Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness, who state the Greek is now the Italian side's priority.

The Serie A side feel that they will be priced out of a deal for Manchester United Chris Smalling following his successful loan stint and have altered their transfer focus.

However, they could face competition in the market for the former Borussia Dortmund man as Tuttosport states Napoli are also eyeing a move.

It's suggested that Sokratis will be involved in a part-exchange deal, with Serbian defender Nikola Maksimovic moving to the Emirates Stadium.

Andrea Petagna targeted

Arsenal are keen on signing Napoli striker Andrea Petagna, according to CalcioMercato.

Mikel Arteta has reportedly personally identified the forward as a target he wants ahead of his first full season at the Emirates Stadium.

Petagna spent last season out on loan at SPAL, where he scored 12 goals, but it was not enough to save his side from relegation.

However, he caught the eye in his stint with the club and Napoli are looking forward to having him back on their books next season.

Folarin Balogun stance

Brentford are looking at alternatives as Arsenal stand firm on their asking price for Folarin Balogun.

The 19-year-old has been linked with a move to the Bees this summer, although having failed to gain promotion to the Premier League, they may not be able to cough up the £8million the Gunners are demanding.

Reports are now suggesting they've turned their attentions to Iran international Saman Ghoddos as an alternative.

Ghoddos plies his trade in France with Amiens, but is likely to become available this summer following the club’s relegation from Ligue 1.
