Arsenal transfer rumours: Mikel Arteta makes Barcelona request, Yves Bissouma claim

Arsenal are not expected to have a busy January transfer window after a relatively expensive summer period.

The Gunners spent just over £70million over the summer as Mikel Arteta looked to get his side closer to the top four.

It may be a case of more outgoings than incomings this month at the Emirates Stadium, but there could also be some groundwork done ahead of the summer window.

In light of this, here is the latest round-up of Arsenal-related transfer stories and rumours from today.

Arteta wants Puig

Arsenal boss Arteta has told the club's board that he wants to bring Barcelona youngster Riqui Puig to the club, according to Spanish news outlet Fichajes.

The report claims that the Gunners boss has put Puig high on his wishlist this month and has asked the club's hierarchy about making a move.

Recent speculation has claimed that Arteta is chasing a creative midfielder and the 21-year-old certainly fits into that bracket.

Speaking back in September, Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman admitted that he wanted to send the La Masia graduate out on loan as he couldn't promise him regular minutes.

Ozil closes in on exit

Arsenal are close to finalising the early termination of Mesut Ozil's contract at the club.

Once the deal has been terminated, Ozil is expected to join Fenerbahce as a free agent on a three-and-a-half year deal.

The 32-year-old playmaker, who is the club's highest earner, has been frozen out of Arteta's plans this season, with the Spaniard not selecting him for either the Premier League or Europa League squad.

Fenerbahce are now hopeful of confirming the former Germany international's move in the next few days, the report claims.

Bissouma claim

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell believes Yves Bissouma would be the perfect partner for Thomas Partey at the Gunners.

There is a genuine interest in Bissouma, football.london understands, but any move for the Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder is likely to be in the summer rather than this month.

Campbell, speaking to Football Insider, has claimed the Seagulls star would be the perfect fit to partner summer signing Partey at the Emirates.

"Bissouma has already proven at Brighton that he can handle the Premier League. He knows the division and it is time for him to step up to a bigger club," the ex-Arsenal man said.

"If Arsenal can get the deal done, I am sure they would because Thomas Partey needs a partner in there."
