Arsenal transfer rumours: Mesut Ozil bid, Houssem Aouar makes Gunners admission

With players away from their clubs for the international break, the dust seems to finally be setting after the closure of the international transfer window.

Arsenal made a number of transfers - both into the club and out - and rumours are now flying about potential deals that failed to happen - as well as those that took place.

Here are the very latest Arsenal transfer rumours and a piece looking into the Gunners' past negotiations.

Ozil offer

Mesut Ozil reportedly turned down a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr in the transfer window.

TYC Sports state that Arsenal were ready to accept a £5million offer for the 31-year-old, who is the club's highest-paid player.

Ozil reportedly had the offer of a two-year deal in the Middle East, but turned down the move because he wants to stay in north London - regardless of whether he features in Mikel Arteta's plans with one year remaining on his deal.

Aouar admission

Houssem Aouar has admitted that he came close to joining Arsenal this summer.

The Lyon star ultimately stayed with the French club as the Gunners sealed a deadline day move for Thomas Partey.

The 22-year-old says that he had a choice between moving to north London or staying with his current club, and insists that he is happy to still be in Ligue 1.

"I'm happy to stay at Lyon," he told TF1. "It's my city, it's my club. It gives me immense pride to represent Lyon.

"It wasn’t really Arsenal or nothing else, although at the end it was close to that. Really, a choice had to be made and I’m happy to stay here.

"I spoke about it a lot with sporting director Juninho. He shows me confidence every day and it's a real pleasure to work with him. To stay here for another season - or more - with him, it's a great pride."

How Arsenal sealed Ideho move

Details have now emerged over how the Gunners sealed a late move for young Ajax star Joel Ideho this summer.

AjaxShowTime state that Arsenal became interested in the 17-year-old following his arrival at the club from Willem II in July this year.

After three months, the Dutch club had not offered him a professional contract despite his strong showings in the UEFA Youth League, so the Gunners made their move.

Arsenal reportedly made contact with the player via an intermediary, but crucially not his current agent Bart van Meel.

Van Meel would apparently have preferred for his client to stay with Ajax, but Ideho disagreed and accepted the offer from Arsenal, agreeing terms on a professional deal.
