Arsenal transfer rumours: Edu tracks Pineda and Barella, Mohamed Elneny contract talks

Arsenal have made an underwhelming start to their Premier League season, with the Gunners currently occupying ninth place in the standings.

Their last outing saw the club end their Old Trafford curse to overcome old rivals Manchester United courtesy of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 's penalty.

Mikel Arteta welcomed a number of new faces to his squad over the summer, with Willian, Gabriel Magalhaes and Thomas Partey all penning deals with the club.

And with the January transfer window rapidly approaching, it remains to be seen whether the current FA Cup holders will be looking to engineer further additions to help them through to the end of the season.

Here is a round-up of the latest Arsenal transfer rumours and gossip.

North London rivals eyeing Mexican winger

The Gunners and rivals Tottenham are said to have a shared interest in Cruz Azul's Oberlin Pineda.

The 24-year-old winger, who has played 21 times for Mexico's national side, is also attracting Wolves, Everton, Southampton, Newcastle United and West Ham United, according to a report by 90min.

Arsenal and Spurs are both said to have sent scouts to watch the player given his solid form this season.

Pineda previously turned down the chance to move to Manchester City in 2016, instead opting to join Cruz Azul in a deal worth more than £10 million.

Elneny set for contract talks

Born-again midfielder Mohamed Elneny could be offered a contract extension after his return to the first-team fray at Arsenal, according to Metro.co.uk.

The Egyptian midfielder has made nine appearances this season and played the full 90 minutes of last weekend's Premier League victory over Manchester United.

However, Arteta has played down the prospect of a new deal being signed just yet.

"Let's go step by step, please," he said.

‘What I can say is that I am really pleased with the player and everything that he is doing and hopefully he can continue like that and perform really well throughout the season."

Arsenal among clubs tracking Inter star

Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are watching the progress of Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella with interest, according to FcInterNews.

The 23-year-old has claimed three assists in six league games so far this season and is said to have no shortage of admirers.

However, Inter are looking to keep hold of their man and are set to be preparing to offer him a new deal.

Talks are 'continuing with confidence' due to Barella's dreams of 'winning with Inter', suggesting a move may be prevented if negotiations go smoothly.
