Arsenal transfer rumours: Dominik Szoboszlai's next club explained, Man City defender wanted

Mikel Arteta will be keen to add to an Arsenal squad that is suffering its worst start to a season since the 1981/82 season.

It was always going to be difficult for the first-time head coach, but Arteta, who impressed in the second half of last season, is likely just coming to the realisation of how much work there is to do.

Such work can continue in the January transfer window. Arsenal fans have hopes of more signings, following on from the additions of Thomas Partey and Gabriel in the summer. We have updates on two potential targets here.

We also have an update on the future of a 2019 signing who has not enjoyed a positive start to life in north London.

Here is a round-up of the latest Arsenal transfer rumours.

Mikel Arteta previews Dundalk vs Arsenal

Mikel Arteta targets Eric Garcia

Arteta is reportedly targeting a move for Eric Garcia, who is in the final year of his contract and is expected to leave Manchester City at the end of the season.

After the 19-year-old rejected a contract offer, Barcelona had a bid rejected as Pep Guardiola felt he needed the Spaniard. Barcelona remain interested, but Arsenal have now thrown their hat into the ring, per reports.

Per the Sun, Arteta, who worked with Garcia at Manchester City, is eager to bring Garcia to the Emirates next season as he looks to further bolster his centre-back options.

David Luiz, Shkodran Mustafi and Sokratis are all in the final year of their respective contracts and could leave on a free transfer at the end of the season.

Arsenal will decide William Saliba future soon

Arsenal will decide the future of William Saliba soon, per Arteta.

Saliba, who spent his first season with the Gunners on loan at Saint-Etienne, was not loaned out for a second term this summer. He was subsequently left out of Arsenal’s Premier League and Europa League squads and is unable to feature for the first team as a result.

Arteta previously conceded that he is frustrated with the handling of the situation, but reiterated this week that a decision regarding the Frenchman’s future this January will be made imminently.

“It's something that we are discussing at the moment,” said the Arsenal boss. “The best thing for us to do. It will be decided soon.

“Whenever we have the spaces and we believe that he's ready to play with us. To be fair, he's made massive improvements in the last few months and it's been a really tricky situation for him.

“As I mentioned before, designed a pathway for him and there were a lot of things that happened to him in his personal life and professionally as well. Now we've made some steps forwards, he's working really hard and played for the under-21s again.

“That was a good game because [Gabriel] Martinelli finally came back for 45 minutes, so I think it was a really positive day for us in terms of that.”

Hungary manager expects RB Leipzig move for Szoboszlai

Hungary manager Marco Rossi expects RB Salzburg star Dominik Szoboszlai to join RB Leipzig this January, per football journalist Tancredi Palmeri via KissKissNapoli .

Writing on Twitter, Palmeri said: “Liverpool? Arsenal? Tottenham? Real Madrid? Nothing like that for Szoboszlai. I just spoke with Hungary manager Marco Rossi live on @kisskissnapoli and he said, ‘I believe Szoboszlai on January will move to Leipzig.’”

Szboszlai has been tracked by Arsenal for some time. football.london reported more than a year ago that the Gunners were monitoring the Hungarian’s progress, and there has been an increased hope among the fanbase that they will attempt to sign him next month.

The 20-year-old, who has a €25million release clause in his contract, is expected to leave Salzburg next month, as his manager Jesse Marsch revealed earlier this year.
