Arsenal transfer rumours: Coutinho and Eriksen updates emerge as Arteta confirms plans

Arsenal suffered another defeat at the weekend, this time a 2-1 loss to Everton as Yerry Mina powered a header home from a poorly defended corner.

The result only puts more pressure on Mikel Arteta, who is coming to the end of his first year as the Gunners manager. There are also increasing questions of the squad, which has been cobbled together in recent years via different regimes and managers.

As such, Arsenal face a potentially pivotal January transfer market in which they will be keen to provide Arteta with the talent to turn around his current poor fortunes. With that in mind, here is a round-up of the latest transfer rumours.

Transfer plans

Mikel Arteta says Arsenal have already made plans for the next two transfer windows.

The Gunners will be able to do business for a month in January, and then once again at the end of the season, over the summer.

Arteta is hoping to improve Arsenal's fortunes on the pitch, with the team currently 15th in the Premier League table and only four points clear of the relegation zone.

Off the pitch, technical director Edu is looking at how to strengthen the playing squad.

"The planning is done, what we want to do in January and in the summer," Arteta said, as reported by Goal. "Sometimes you can do it, sometimes not depending on a lot of factors.

"Edu is dealing with that at the moment and I'm focused with all the games, we don't have much time to spend energy now on that because it's very clear what we want to do.

"My job is to make the most out of this squad, the players that we have.

"We know what we want to do and we will try to execute it knowing that the actual context, market and what we've been through makes it's difficult."

Coutinho latest

Barcelona are said to be 'desperate' to offload reported Arsenal transfer target Philippe Coutinho.

The Gunners have previously been linked with a move for the 28-year-old playmaker.

And Catalan media outlet Sport claims Barcelona want to sell the Brazil international so that they do not have to fork out more money to Liverpool.

The La Liga giants snapped up Coutinho from the Reds nearly three years ago in a whopping £142million deal. They will apparently be required to pay an £18million add-on if the player makes 10 more appearances for the club, which would take him to 100 in total.

The Express says Arsenal could be a 'potential next destination for Coutinho'.

Eriksen update

Arsenal continue to be linked with a move for former Tottenham star Christian Eriksen in the January transfer window.

Italian media outlet La Gazzetta Dello Sport reports that the Gunners are 'looking at' the Inter Milan midfielder. The article, translated by Sport Witness, claims that the Premier League looks to be the 'only possible landing place' for the Denmark international.

Eriksen has found his first-team chances limited at the San Siro under Antonio Conte. His lack of action has sparked speculation about where his future lies.
