Arsenal arrested their recent struggles with a hard-earned 1-1 draw against Southampton on Wednesday night.
It ended a run of four successive home league defeats and saw Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang score his third goal of the season and his first from open play since the opening day of the campaign. However, with Gabriel being sent off midway through the second half, it was not easy, and the lack of confidence in the team was clear to see.
Mikel Arteta still remains under pressure, and the talent deficit in the squad, when compared to others at the top of the table, is stark. The January transfer window looms, and Arsenal have a chance to support their under-fire manager. We have updates on several reported targets here.
With all that in mind, here is a round-up of the latest Arsenal transfer rumours.
January move for Porto's Vieira
Arsenal are reportedly considering a move for Porto's 20-year-old midfielder, Fabio Vieira.
The Portuguese youngster broke into the Porto first team towards the back end of last season and has since gone on to make 12 appearances this term. He has one goal to his name.
And Portuguese outlet Record via the Daily Mail reports that Arsenal have been monitoring Vieira's prospects and are now considering whether to exercise his £27 million release clause next month.
The report also adds that Porto are ready to offer Vieira a new deal to ward off any interest, while Ligue 1's Marseille are also said to be following proceedings closely.
Arteta asks for Aouar, Isco
Arsenal boss Arteta has asked for Houssem Aouar and Isco to shake up his Arsenal midfield, per recent reports.
Arsenal have lacked sharpness and creativity in central midfield all season, with technical director Edu recently telling a fans' forum that it was obvious that this is the team's greatest need at present.
And now, according to Defensa Central via TEAMtalk, Arteta has identified Aouar and Isco as the ideal solutions to his midfield problems, though Arsenal can only afford one next month.
Arsenal had a bid rejected for Aouar in the summer and could make another pursuit for the Lyon star. Meanwhile, Isco has fallen out of favour at Real Madrid, but his expensive wages are viewed as a potential problem as he seeks a January exit from the Bernabeu.
Campbell says Arsenal should keep Saliba
Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell told Football Insider that the club should keep William Saliba, despite the 19-year-old having not played this season after failing to secure a loan move in the summer.
It was expected that Saliba, who Arsenal signed in 2019, would return to the club following a year-long loan at Saint-Etienne and fight for a first-team place. Instead, Arteta deemed him not ready for Premier League football and left him out of the senior squads.
This left Saliba sitting in the reserves as a second-season loan was unable to be completed. It was expected that he would be sent out on loan in January, but Campbell believes this makes little sense.
"Apparently Saliba has made great strides in training," Campbell said. "Mustafi is going to leave at the end of the season, that is a done deal from both sides, and Saliba needs minutes, so why not give him the minutes that Mustafi is getting?
"To me, it makes no sense. I like to think Arteta would use Saliba in the Europa League and FA Cup games we have coming up rather than sending him out on loan."
